Default About to get cam and headers. any advice GREATLY appreciated

Well I have a few questions here.. I'm looking to get a cam and headers for my car in the near future. I'm leaning towards the FM13 cam and pacesetter LT's.

1.) I know "driveability" all depends on the driver, but I was wondering if I'll have any REAL issues w/ the FM13. This is my daily driver, but I'm willing to put up w/ some inconvienence for the added HP.

2.) I really want to get the cam before headers, ory, and new muffler... might go w/ duals, i dunno. I will have to wait on one or the other until I have the funds. I WILL get a tune after I get the cam installed... If i install the cam, get it tuned, THEN install the headers will I be missing out on any HP gains compared to if I got it tuned all together??

3.) What kind of aprox. total price are we talking w/ the FM13 and everything that goes w/ it? (springs, lifters, push-rods, GOOD tune...)

Thanks a lot for your help/ advice.

dont short change yourself with crap pace brand. had them with my LT4 and they gained zero. Get LG or Kooks.

do it all together, youll pay higher if you do cam first then headers due to re-tune.

with that futral grind (if you can get a cam from them that is) is hard on stock lifters, i would look into that before you make a final decision on what you're going to do. as for the headers Kooks are the best, in my opinion i like to do things right the first time so i bought a set of 1.875-2" kooks stepped headers, and went with a solid roller setup with a "pro-stock" cam

1. A good tune should make that a decent cam for daily driving. Lower gears would help, but since you didn't mention them, forget that I did.

2. Don't bother with tuning the car until you get the headers on. If you can't afford both the cam and headers at the same time, don't install until you have both and the $$$ for the tune. Forget about lost HP, the car might not run worth a damn. Either headers or cam are going to require a tune and both definitely will.

3. Cam kit with springs & pushrods, lifters not necessary = $650 Check with sponsors.

Tune = $350-$500.... or find someone with LS1 Edit or buy it and learn how to yourself....

Good luck.

I would think so. I run my H/C on stock gears...If you are willing to put up with it there should be no problems.

There are a large number of folks in here running Pacesetter LT's, now I don't know about their LT1 applications, but don't kid yourself, they make pleanty of power on Gen III V8's. So far mine have been in place since around May with no problems, just go for the coated version, it's worth the extra $$.

BTW I don't know if you mentioned or not, but are you staying with the stock gears out back? I just ordered the F13 cam myself for my M6 WS6 and I was wondering how well it's going to react to stock 3.42's out back.

yeah, i was planning on keeping my stock gears. if the FM13 is too big for the stockers i might go w/ a different cam..... once again i ask, what issues might result from having a larger cam w/ stock gears???

Typically, a big cam causes a loss of low end tq. Changing gears from a 3.42 to a 3.73 or 4.10 helps compensate for that loss of low end.
