How much does testing cost?

Depending on the scope of test it could range from $400 to $5000. A company I worked for in the past was in a lawsuit on a broken rocker arm. If memory serves me it was around $1000 to get a failure analysis on it. Another company that I deal with just had damper test done to monitor harmonics, just the testing not parts cost them $7000.

My failure occurred on a little old 216/220 cam with .525" lift, so don't think it was just big cams. Mine of course saw about 11k street miles and 4k roadrace high rpm miles.

Has anyone had these sorts of problems with aftermarket or Comp O.E lifters? I thought the comp o.e. lifters came with a steel girdle between the two lifters to help keep them aligned?

looks to me (if i had to guess) that the lifters are coming out of alignment with the cam lobe. If the lifter showed vertical scoring (lines) then I could see spring pressures/pushrod length, but it looks as though CHUNKS of the lifters are coming off... and uneven scoring.

IMO look into a rev kit or comp o.e. lifters with girdle if available? I'm looking to see if there are any posts on the subject (search) ... so far i've found none.

Just an update. The cam was requested also for a analysis. Sidestep/Scott got the camshaft that the lifters ran on. The cam was shipped to the lab on Friday. After the cam has some test done on it then some results will be posted.
