Anyone pull the heads to check the lifters and check out the cam. For signs of abnormal wear.

I have the cam out already, no abnormal wear.

How many miles are on it. Pics? I have about 130 miles on mine. I may just let it eat on the dyno this weekend.

3000 miles with a lot of runs to 6600 rpms.

I'll snap pics tomorrow.

Indeed.

The Cam Motion thing happened about 9 years ago. And it was actually determined to be a bad batch of hardening on the cores. And guess what, Futral/Cam Motion actually took care of the people with the problem from what I recall.

It'd be nice to figure out what's causing the issue with everyone in this thread, though.

Right now there's a replacement Lunati grind in, because I figured it was just one bad core, but that one has the same whine too.

I'll tear it down again when it's warmer out and try a stock cam. Who knows when that will be with this winter mess.

I might send this first cam back to Lunati.

The pricing is identical @ $380, indicating they could possibly be getting their cores from the same place.

I found (what I think is) abnormal wear. I'm not an expert by any means on cam analysis, but out of the 15 or so cams I have pulled out of cars, I have never seen a lobe have a sharp line through it. Not only is it a sharp line, it's off center as well.

Suspect lobe wear

Normal lobe wear based on my experience. A wide, faint line, right down the middle of the lobe.

Lol wouldn't know, I bite my nails.

That was the only wear spot. It doesn't feel too bad when I touch it..it's still smooth, but obviously deeper than normal. I've never seen anything like it before though, it looks odd to me.

It would be interesting to see if your other cam has wear on the same lobe. If so, I would guess it's a bad lifter causing this mess for you.

I would agree with you, however, my previous AI cam had zero wear on it and zero whine. Same with the cam before that.

This cam whined since the first second it started. I find it hard to believe that my lifter went bad as soon I put a new cam in. I'd be more inclined to believe this cam caused the lifter to go bad, and caused the 2nd replacement cam to still whine.

It's a chicken or the egg problem it seems

Looks like something was on the cam that could of wore that line in the lobe. I wonder if the lifter for that lobes shows any lines in it or marks.

Colt, you're in Tampa, it's warm. Go pull yours out now and check that lobe! LOL!

I think I'll pull the heads and check the lifters, a lot easier than pulling the cam in a c5
