Default Just wanted to say thank for the help!

I had posted a few threads about rocker arm and lifter preload specs in attempt to remedy some valve train noise..

And many (local buddies and local shop(s) said that it isn’t "that important" to make sure that you tighten them down (each) when each valve fully closed I totally disagree now. And I wanted to say thanks for all that helped me out as I have learned so much from you guys and appreciate the assistance.

It appears that it is very important when using a higher lift cam to torque down the rocker arms properly when the lifter preload is 0 lash to 22lbs o’tq. I did have an enormous amount or ticking and clanking - rough idling – low rpm surging - idling high when rolling to a stop - etc.. issues until now.

My engine runs a TON smoother now and seemingly better - even with the noisy hardened push rods. I must say that hearing it now really makes me scratch my head that it made "that much" of a difference.. and thanks again to all that make this forum worth reading.. Finally an end to the ticking time bomb noise and now the encouragement to smok’em every time I let the clutch out!!

Now I just need to learn how to drive.. hahaha..

That's a great tip. I'll try that this weekend when the F1 goes in. Mine sounds like a loud sewing machine even with the TR224. Glad to hear you had good results.

At first I was using shims and stock pushrods casue they were much more quiet. But I then "learned" about the proper TQ specs and how to tighten them @ 0 lash - so I then removed the shims and went back to hardened pushrods with the proper TQ @ 0 lash and everything is fine..

Hope that helps..

bparker,

can you list the threads that helped you make the adjustments? Thanks.

Wow - it wasnt just one thread - but several - so I would suggest that you do a search for "lifter preload" or "rocker arm lash". You will have plenty of reading and different senarios that people have ran into..

Have a good one,
