A "Profilometer" will do it. A good machine shop should have one, or know where you can find one. Since cams are ground, the surface should be pretty smooth. You could measure the FM and your stocker (if you still have it) for comparison.

Metal was not soft, thats for sure. The cam was gouged in on that one loe because the roler had flaked apart and really ground down the cam as it was spinning.

Was this a serious reply or just funning around??? I dont think it was valve float. the gold dual kits have 140/350 seat/open pressure, which is more than enough to control this cam profile. besides, its not like the only damage is on the trailing ramp of the lobe.

That is not valve float, you have damage all the way around the lobe... He must have been joking...

Dont feel sorry. I think im going to enjoy my new setup a lot more, and having the lifters crumble on me, twice, just sped things up. I just wanted to post pics of the cams texture what with all the other posts of lifters getting all fux0r3d...

looks like my old TR224 cam after some piston slap issues, minus the tooling marks. my lifter, on the other hand, mushroomed in the block

One down side to a roller cam is the roller on the lifter develops a line load and a very high surface stress, and this is in the best of conditions with a smooth contact surface. With a surface roughness that is too high, which appears to be what you have on your cam, your peak stress values are likey through the roof and the cam will start breaking down.
