Default ET 215/T-Rex is up and running, Wow!

I am very impressed with the Heads, Cam and Tune so far.
Heads are ET 215, 58cc chambers, SCR 11.8 to 1 and DCR 8.6 to 1, Comp 977 springs 155lbs on the seat and 419lbs @ .600, shimmed to .040 from coil bid, and these 58cc heads have more then .020 PTV clearance then my stock 67cc heads.
Cometic .040 head gasket.
Comp 8.100 push rods with .070 preload
Fast 90/90 matched ported and cleaned up the runners
1 ¾ QTP SS and coated headers with custom SS 3” Y into a Flowmaster Merger then into 3.5” cutout then Corsa.

The valve train noise is very quite, way less then my F13 with Patriot Duals.
This set-up drives extremely well, it has more low end Torque then my cam only F13 did by a long shoot. It pulls harder everywhere even thou I have the timing set low @ 26 and AFR way fat, until I can get back home next week to start tuning.
I would like to Thanks Geoff @ Thunder Racing and Jimmyblue a Moderator here in the PCM Diagnostic & Tuning section for some base tune help. There is no surging or bucking. I can lug it along at 1,500 rpm in 6th gear.

Cruising along in 2nd gear at 2,500 rpm and just roll on the throttle and it just roast a pair of 315 Nitto’s right to 7,200 rev limiter prior to reaching WOT!

So far this set-up has far exceed my expectation on power and drivalbity, but the real test will be how well it runs at the track.

As far the ET heads go, extremely nice.
Even with the ½ inch spacer I still was able to use my same MSD plug wires. I call MSD and the said the spark plug boot was designed to be bent. I just bend the plug boots to 45. To issue at all.
I also had to move my heater hoses a bite to clear the passenger side coil pack just prior to the hoses going into the A/C Heater box.
The exhaust port did not match the headers and header gasket perfectly, it over lapped the upper corner by 3/16 of an inch. I slotted the gasket and header hole and shifted the header to make it fit prefect.
I also notice with the rocker stands install that there is not as good oil return drainage paths as a stock casting head.
I am sure that ET is on top of these issues, but all and all these are some awesome heads.

Boy I can’t wait to get home and drive my car again!

Sounds like a stout setup. We've got some preliminary numbers on the combo but are keeping them quiet until the whole setup is complete. You will definitely be happy with the combo.

What's wrong with using a T-Rex?

I don't understand why people think that you can't put heads on a t-rex either. Sounds like you got a great combo, love to see the numbers.

Because the only numbers out of a t-rex people are used to seeing is on a stock headed motor. If I remember reading correctly that's what thunder designed it for, max power without having to flycut?
FWIW...With a very good set of ported stock ls6 castings fitted w/ 2.02/1.60 valves, ls6 intake, and the t-rex I witnessed 450rwhp through a M6 and a 12bolt (friends car).
Should be a stout combo needless to say, those ET heads are very nice

Sounds like an awesome setup!!

What all did you do to get rid of the bucking/surging in the base tune?

You can PM me if you don't want to muck up this thread, I would really like some pointers on big cam driveablity.

I bought a base T-Rex tune for the timing tables and VE tables from Geoff @ Thunder Racing. He knows how to make this cam work.
I dial-in the IAC to around 40 hot and L-Trim between -3 to -5.

I pulled 4 degrees of timing and added 10% more fuel to the WOT tune. Until next week when I will have time to hook up AutoTap and Wide Band and dail-in the WOT part of the tune. Then I plan to take it to the rollers for some numbers.

I should be home Wednesday afternoon. Hoping to do some street tuning on Thrusday, dyno Friday and Moroso the following Wednesday. Will your car be ready for the track on that Wednesday?

EXACTLY! the trex was specifically designed for stock heads. why wouldnt' you get a cam ground for your specific application? I'm sure you'll make good power, but I'd always wonder what I left on the table by going with an off the shelf cam.

I think it would be safer to go with a cam that has been proven to give good results, and not someones "custom" cam that hasn't realy been proven and not much if any R&D has been done.
