Cometic is a very respected name in the gasket world. The lsx crowd has been using, and re-using, thier gaskets for years without issues. They are not the only ones who make a .045 as I believe Fel-pro makes one too.

my engine has only 15k miles on it and the heads are freshly milled .018.I think the speed on the mill was a little high,as they have a dull appearence to them, very flat and true though.

On my H2 install with AFR heads and ARP studs they seeped for a couple hundred miles. Then they sealed. No fluid loss for the last 500 or so miles.
I was sweating bullets every time I opened the hood thinking I was going to have to pull them.
It helped out to drop a tab of that GM sealant in the overflow tank.

.040 gaskets, copper spray and ARP head bolts. No leaks after 800 miles. Like someone mentioned above deck surface prep is the key to ensure a leak-free seal; especially on a used block. Basically both surfaces should be as smooth as possible. I also use Lacquer Thinner to wipe down the surfaces.
