Question Forged 347 !

I have a question about my engine. I am currently having my engine rebuilt and will be getting it forged out (pistons, rods, etc..). I plan on putting a TR224 in while its out.The engine had Comp 1.85 rockers so might reuse them depending on your answers. Will that rocker ratio be O.K with that cam? I believe it like a .611 or .612 lift!

TIA
JON

I'm not sure but you should try and contact Thunder Racing and get a profesional opinion.....bytheway, why are you going with "only a tr224"...i would be pushing for a cam at least in the 230's...wish good luck with you combo

The rockers should be ok depending on vavle springs...but I personally would just go with a larger cam.

I was thinking of doing something in the low 230's w/ a .59? lift. Would 918's be O.K. or should I do dual or 921 springs? My only issue would be gas mileage in my auto Daily Driver What do you guys think?

918's should work with the 224, but any bigger do it once right go 921's and make sure you warm them up every start they are a little more brittle(918), but the duals can help you out here. by the way the 918's are rated at max .600 lift

you should do a custom grind since you're doing a nice forged motor. get something like a Trex cam's duration with less LOBE lift to work with the 1.85 rockers to come up with similar lift of the TREX.

Yeah, I come up with .613 (vs. .563 w/1.7).

FYI: Thunder recommends to not use 1.8 rockers due to the fast ramp rate of the cam. I'm sure this extends to the 1.85s.

Go back to 1.7's either with the stock rockers or aftermarket rollers. There is too much side loading IMO with anything above 1.7 rockers on these motors. That bottom end will be reliable to 7500+. IMO, there's no reason to limit yourself to the 224 cam. I'd be looking at the F13 or F14 from Futral, TSP 233/239, their Torquer cam, what Thunder offers, and maybe even their T-Rex depending on if you emissions, your heads, and gearing.

If I were you, a set of TEA Stage 1.5 5.3 heads milled to give you 11-11.5:1 compression or equivalent with one of the cams I mentioned, would be a great value and still be pretty torquey for daily driver use if you keep the compression up there.

I would definitely want to put a bigger cam in it, but I got the 224 for $150.I'm building a house right now so funds are tied up. So thats the reason for that! I will prolly put a hundred shot in a couple months for a lil more fun.
