Default Cam is in!

Got the car back from New Era and I'm very pleased with the work. I just wish he could have had more time and that the vibration in the car on the dyno had not be present. I believe there is more to go with the tune but until I can get the bad vibration out of the car, happens at 70mph, we can't get the finally number.

Daily Driving wise the car is mint. Little start up issues when cold but I would imagne if the outside temp would get over 30 then it will not happen.

The cam and the torque converter work well together. The car moves and sound fffing awesome. Can't wait to get the problem fixed and get her to the track.

jim still haven't figured it out yet, its really killing me.

ssilverssurfer the cammed was designed to match my setup so if I decide to change it I'll also have to change the cam, not to big of a problem if I decide on the next step because I know that will include pulling the motor....

The cam in Mike's car was designed to incorporate the fact that ported heads will be in the future , no specs on our custom cams guys , sorry , go to the track and see what it runs , you won't be disappointed . So far everyone has been happy with our custom cams not knowing the specs because of the performance gain they feel and see . Mike , please keep me posted on the vibration issue .

2 words for anyone that wants to know the specs....Cam Doctor.

Plus, you have to have the cam, so their portion of the sale is complete. It will just cost you a few hundred to find it out.

Well it's a little silly anyway... I mean for the cam to be useful to anyone else they'd have to run his exact same setup... it's not like spouting specs of aa off-the-shelf grind like the g5x4.

It is just a custom grind cam. plain and simple. So it makes sense.

Well I can understand if HE didn't want to release the specs... but if I was working with a company and they designed a custom cam just for my setup, I would want to know what it is... myself.

That's just how I am though.

I agree,

How do you make the correct decisions for future upgrades with out knowing your cam specs are?

Example: Aftermarket heads: can they be milled? Can you use larger rocker arms? If you have to change the springs how much lift will be required?

These are all things you will probably face in the future. How can you make educated decisions on setting up your car with out knowing what you have?

Good luck,

Al

C'mon, give us a break ... as if you guys have access to arcane cam secrets unavailable to anybody else. So the customer is supposed to simply put "faith" your "superior" cam knowledge and purchase blind? I would never buy a cam from anybody who was unwilling to make an intelligent case for why a particular set of specs would work best with a given combo and one's personal goals.

I didn't ask you to buy one of our cams , custom cams = no specs and optimum power for cars that we work on only , they are NOT off the shelf cams anyone else offers . We will not mail order them and they are only available by install , I didn't design them , but I am abiding by the rules of the cam designer here to do this . Mike doesn't seem to be complaining either so stop the hating . Mike knows that anytime he can call me and I will be willing to let him know anything about future upgrades for questions he might have about his cam , his valvetrain is set up perfect for it already .

i'd like to see everyone lay off the no cam-spec ball busting.

it's not your cam, don't worry about it.

Yeah guys. It is fine if they are installing the cam. The only thing that would turn it into a nightmare would be changing the heads. As long as someone is working on your car and you are paying them...they will stand by their work. Just because someone doesnt release the specs on a cam that you can't buy off the shelf doesnt make it a bad idea to run. I am sure that the guys down at New Era know their stuff, and they are not going to mess someones setup up and not make it right even if they did.

And if you really need to know the specs....like i said earlier. If it matters enough for you to know what the specs are send it somewhere and have it doctored for 25$. If you are doing anything that is going to possibly cause a conflict with the cam then it is probably going to be your heads and or valvetrain....which. you have to pull the heads to do work on them. You have the heads off? that is more than half the battle of pulling the cam out. Then you can have it spec'd if it matters.

Thank you , or if you need to know the specs , you can buy an off the shelf cam instead , cam spec discussion ended .
