why do you need heads to go in the 11's. you should be there with your current setup imo. but afr's would be the best if price is no concern.

Streetracer361

I have the AFR 205cc milled to 59cc, 5-way valve stems, and the springs are good to .650 lift. Your in SA, you state. Go to Wylie (just a few miles north of Dallas) - to LG Motorsports. They do some of the best work I've ever seen and have a very competent staff. Not to mention the owner, Lou races....so he's not just the owner of a shop. I mated them to .040 Cometics.

I'm not an LG thumper, in fact, I had some guys in Abilene, TX actually do the conversion on my vehicle. However, I'm going with LG to do the new cam and rear diff.

You might spend some, but you'll be satisfied you did it and know it will be done right.

I have heard that EPT 215's slightly outflow AFR205's. If you want the absolute best then get the EPT's. I put in an order with New Era Performance for these heads myself

What head is better the AFR 205s or EPT 215's. And are both heads on back order or is AFR's ready to ship that same weak. I called New Era and they said 6 to 8 weeks back order. What is a best shop to have them installed in Texas.

AFRs are probably also on backorder - worth the wait though. Best shop to have them installed? I'm sure there's a few, but Nelson Performance in SA might be a good way to go.......look for contact info for Nelson at www.ls1truck.com

AFR's are cool and all, but they are NOWHERE near the best head for the money. If you have the money and want to buy them then all the power to you.

But the Dart 205/225cc heads are $1280 from Summit Racing. They flow AS much as AFR's and I have dyno #'s from what I've installed them on that are on par as the AFR's I have installed. The Dart 225's are actually the best value I know of because they outflow AFR 205's fairly well and are $1000 less.

Thats your best head for the money.

Thats your best head for the money.

Callin' you stan90gt50!

I went out to Summit Racing: http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...h.asp&N=400333 - didn't see the price your quoting. Was it a quote over the phone? Cause I've had those guys quote me a heck of a price on products before, but you had to buy right then and there.

I found bare heads for $800 or so (which is a slashed price) - about $150 difference than what my catalog shows. I have the March-April 2006 Summit Racing Equipment catalog (source code is R12104). It shows DRT-11021122 and DRT-11011112 @ 1,619.90 (page 299)for assembled heads. What your showing might be true and it would seem a good deal about $400 off.

You stated "AFRs" - but did not quantify AFR 205s so - you talk about Dart 225s numbers. I went to www.dartheads.com and downloaded a file named LS1Flyer.pdf. It showed at .600 lift Darts do 313intake 214exhaust - trouble is, they don't quantify some info where AFR does. AFR shows their numbers for their 225 Mongoose heads as being 320intake 250exhaust. Both of these are at CFM @ 28" H2O (just like the Darts). However, AFR shows that this is with 1 7/8" pipe on the exhaust and bore size of 4.125 (what did Dart show for this?).

Quote from AFRs website:
"One fo the recent changes in cylinder-head flow-testing is the use of an exhaust pipe. The idea is to better simulate the way the exhaust port flows air. Our testing refealed that there is a significant difference in the exhaust-port flow when the same port is flowed with and without a pipe."

Again, since you stated "AFRs", I'm pushing this point because if you don't want to use AFR 205s or AFR 225s, some people out there might not be aware of AFRs 220s -

Part # Description
1650 AFR LS1 220cc as cast, 64cc chamber, complete w/parts 76cc 1 pair 2049.00. These might give your 225s a run for their...well....money.

Having gone through all that, it boils down to 205 vs 225. 225s are using 2.05/1.6 valves (which equals more air). But comparing 225s vs 205 is not a good comparison when comparing heads and flow numbers. For them to "only" (yep, I said only) beat the 205s by 13CFM would seem to show why the 205s are better heads....for the money. The 205s have the smaller intake runners, so running air through these at such a higher rate really helps it build power on N/A vehicles.

Are the Dart's 50-state legal? AFR 205s are - emission legal head E/O # D250-4.

Lastly, from https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/475839-dart-head-issue-fixed.html how about this comment?

"Someone missed some deburring at dart after the initial machine work was done."

I actually didnt take the time to read the above because thats way to much time into a head arguement.

I've installed alot of AFR heads on customers cars. I've now installed dart heads. I have had both sets flowed on the same bench. I have dynoed tuned both. I like dart heads better and for $1000 less. The End.

I still like my LPE LS6 heads(59cc) with 2.02 int/1.60 exh valves. Here are the numbers ported/polished before hand rolling the ports.

Lift Int Exh

.200 153 120
.300 228 171
.400 276 205
.500 294 220
.600 314 225

Car made 484 RWHP and 440 RWTQ on a mildly tuned 383 Stroker. Price was right for me not to mention PROVEN results!!
