Default sewing machine

well had g5x4 cam installed last week I have that sewing machine sound I have Patriot gold's and 7.4 pushrods and stock heads. I spoke to LG Motorsports today about going to a 7.425 pushrod to see if this would help they told it was my gold springs doing this and they have a bunch of these springs that failed. I just want to know if this will hurt anything or just leave it?

I'd step up to the longer pushrod for proper preload. That'll quiet her down. As far as the Patriot Golds are concerned, they are a pretty stout spring. If you were trying to control large 2.08 or 2.10" aftermarket valves, I might worry, but with the stock valves, it *should* hold for a while.

Heavier valves are harder to control. With a radical cam, valve float could happen.

yea LG said to use the 7.4 pushrods but from what I have read looks like the 7.425 would have been a better choice

That I understand.
Wondering why the Patriots aren't as good as another brand?
And what are the better springs to handle a 629/622 lift cam?

yep told me that they had a pile of gold springs that failed and that was causing the "sewing machine" noise and that should chage them out to 921's

I just installed Comps 921's with a TRAK cam this week.
Valve train is very quite. I thought for sure they'd be noisy
like my buddies PG's. So what? They are till running fine in his C5.

Just curious who told you they were having problems. Also what was the reason for the failure.I've never heard of the patriot golds failing.

Very true but these duals springs are much stronger than say a 918, and will control the valves well until .660 lift. I have heard nothing but great things about both the Patriots and the PRC golds....Im running the PRC golds myself. There are no more noisy than my previous ISKY singles were...which BTW is also a great single.

I also got 60,000 miles out of a set of 918's with a smaller cam.

Take your pic they are all good springs, but the PRC's, Patriots and Comp duals will allow you to run more radical profiles and higher lift to .660...at least on stock weight valves.

Our Patriot Gold spring is the best spring on the market. They are a very high quality spring that performs great. We called to speak to Lou at LG about these "numerous" failures. Lou was not in but we did speak to the customer serivce rep who talked to you about this issue. We were informed that they have not used our springs in roughly 3 years. This would stand to reason that since our Gold spring has only been around about 2.5 years, that the spring that they are referring to is not our Gold spring. Search this forum and you will be hard pressed to find any negative comments about the Orginal Patriot Gold spring. By the way, you will notice that even our competitors have followed our lead and now use these springs...using their own name of course.

Im willing to bet that their supposed pile is exactly 0 springs large. PP gold spring failures are few and far between and usually do to installation error or abuse (cold revs). Nothing wrong with a little sewing machine noise. Mine have quieted down a little after the first couple thousand miles.

I run the Patriot Gold springs. These springs are very high quality and keep my valvetrain in check nicely at 7000 rpm's. I have no sewing machine noise that I can tell. Maybe I would hear some if I had a quieter exhaust on the car. I also use the 7.4 pushrods.

What was the problem earlier on with your heads? I thought it was valve spring failure? There was a reason a while ago, there were some failures or something as to why you shouldnt buy patriot heads. ?

I am running Patriot Heads, MS3, and stock head gaskets. The 7.425" pushrods are too long and it was bleeding compression off. I verified it last night and with the 7.425" pushrod the compression was 130 psi. I installed a set of 7.350" I have and it jumped to 170 psi. I think you should keep what you have and live with the small amount of noise.

Hows the car doing Terry?
Yeah its weird some cars will have lots of valvetrain noise and some won't. Some only do it after warmed up and some do it up till they are warmed up.
I wouldn't worry about the springs. like Gunnar said they are quality springs. LG was just trying to sell you some million dollar springs. they will say anything to make a buck.
I'm glad Gunnar called them out on it though.
