It sure does in the northeast during winter! A lot of guys wonder where all their heat went to. Even in warmer climates, the fans dont operate above 30 MPH unless youre over temp, so the operating temperature is indeed dictated (atleast on the highway) by the thermostat.

If you live in the North, no 160* should be used. North should be the first clue

So what is the consensus? Stock stat with reprogrammed fans, or 160* stat with reprogrammed fans?

I live in Missouri, where we have the most unpredictable weather. It will be over 100 in the summer and 0 in the winter. And in the fall and spring, you have no clue what you are going to get. A couple days ago, it was like 20 degrees, and now it is 65 outside.

I just want to get what is best for my car. Can someone help me out? If I stick with the stock stat, what would you reprogram the fans at?

I wouln't just change it to change it. If you had it to take it off for a reason then you could change it. The stock stat is fine like others have said. If you cant find someone to reprogram your fans, you could always get a manual fan switch. Just changing the fan turn on times makes a big difference. There's a write up floating around somewhere how to wire in a manual fan switch.

I've got HPTuners on the way, so I can change the fans to do whatever I want. I'll stick with the stock stat for now, but should I reprogram the fans? And if so, what on/off temps for each?
