Default 98' heads vs 2002?

What are some of the differences which give the 2002 241s better flow? Post up pics if anyone has them laying around. Thanks!

the combustion chambers are different shapes. The 98's are triangular while the 99+'s are sphereical or visa versa.

I'll have some pics in a couple of weeks, but I'm sure someone will get some before then.

Are you sure its 99+ I was told that 98-00 all had the 853's. Just 98's had perimeter bolts.

No problem! A lot of people think they came with 241s, they didnt, but they did get the slightly better flowing exhaust manifolds that came on 01-02 cars.

My freinds 2000 camaro has the 241`s , I think that late 2000 models were provided also with the 241`s.
HP differences ? they will flow identical , except that the 241 when ported will flow slightly beter and when I mean beter thats a 4-5 rwhp difference.

furthermore, casting are different to.

Are the combustion chambers really VERY different. I thought the only major differences were the casting method and a slightly better flow on the later heads.

I heard the 2001 241s have a rough sand casting and 2002 241s have smooth, foam type casting = better flow.

So the later 2000s had the 2001 style 241s, good, but not as good as the 2002 241s. Good info. If I get a 2000 fbod, I will make sure it is a late 2000.

Here's how you can tell if it's sand or die cast.

All 241/243s were semi-permanent castings.

If you look below each spark plug hole and you see a "triangular chill mark"' then you DON"T have a sand casting!

The traingular chill marks are made in the mold and is used to control the expantion/removal of the head once it's cast. Here's a photo, look below each spark plug:

My 241's on my 2000 Z28 are the same as the 241's that my 2002 SS had on it. The interior port and exterior surfaces are the same. They are noticably smoother on the exterior than the 853 heads on a friends 2000 Z28.
