I've been runing that cam now for over 50,000 miles on a DD with great results..452 rwhp on a heads/cam and all the bolt ons car...its a great street cam...makes plenty of muscle under the curve which is where most of us live 99% of the time ...

Would it have similar results with say XFI lobes instead to cut down on NVH and prolong sprint life? I love the torque curve and am looking for similar results, just leary of the aggressive LSK lobes for a DD car.

What affect would dropping the LSA from 110 to 108 have on this cam?

Actually TORQUE is really what matters, Horsepower isn't even a real force, it is a mathematical formula.

So as you can see, what you feel when you press the pedal is torque. The measure of how much torque you have over a given time period or RPM band is more closely correlated with horsepower.

Basically horsepower is a more accurate number to show the performance of a car over time, while torque is more accurate to show the actual power the car is making at any given moment.

What Patrick is saying is that he is maximizing BOTH, or the area under the curve.

By increasing his torque range all over, he is maximizing the power he has both at any given time (torque) AND the torque the engine makes over time (HP).

This is what will truly make a fast and fun car.

I myself am looking to do the exact same thing my car.

The old saying is: Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races.

Having the power there when you need it at all times is what makes your car fast.

It has to continue making that torque to win. Also known as HP.

Great thread. I know it's as old as moses but it has great info. I'm thinking about this cam for my dd 95 s10 lq4/t56. the motor is currently going together with stage 3 243 cnc heads. about 10.0to1 compression. lts, no cats and a full 3" dual exhaust. I will eventually get a fast 92/92 as well. Of those of you that drive or have driven this cam daily. any idea on the gas mileage. I need at least one of my cars to get somewhat respectable mileage.
Thanks for any info you could provide.

Hello Kory
I looked up the cam I am using its a Patrick Guerra, 226/230 .598 .600 113+2
I am running more compression then you mentioned about 11.25.
If you want to stay with 10.0 you can change the came advance to +4.
This cam rocks for a street setup.
The car drive near stock when you baby it.
The mileage is great when you baby it.
I have the fast 92 manifold and the C6 TB
I an running AFR 205 heads and a 0.035 cometic gasket.
forged pistons and forged connection rods (heavy parts)
I made 496hp, 477tq
its a very nice torque curve. HP is near flat from 6000 to 6600
I am set up a little rich and a little low on timing due to my setup for a small NOS shot.
This is in a C5, six speed car with 3.90 rear.
second is tough not to smoke the tires from a fast roll.
I am running 295 BFGR KDW2
Mileage can be up to 28MPG on a cruise
11's in the 1/4 with a full weight car-poor driver

This setup out shines my old 224, 224, cam, ported LS6 head, ls6 manifold
in every way.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.
was that whp/wtq you mentioned? I would be happy with 425 and extatic with 450. do you think that this would be doable with the lower compression? I'm leaning toward having Patrick spec me a cam.
Thanks again.

As many of you know, I ran the first Thunder Racing TRak Cam to great success. The cam specs are 233/235 .644/.598 112LSA (+2). This is a very mean cam and a bit of a bear to tune, but the effort was worth it. Made the numbers in my signature. The TRak cam is bigger than its numbers will lead you to believe.

About a month ago, I had an opportunity to try out a Comp XE-R lobed cam: 234/238 .598/.605 114LSA (+2). This cam had much better street manners than the TRak cam and was within 5 rwhp in the 6000+ rpm range, but was down about 20 lb ft of torque in the 3000-4000 rpm mid-range. I wanted my torque back.

Since I liked the street manners of the 114LSA cam, but I wanted lots more torque, I asked Thunder Racing to grind me up a Super Torquey cam that would have excellent street manners. Here's what they came up with:
224/228 .637/.639 110LSA (+0).

I'm absolutely in love with this cam. It feels like I picked up 50 lb ft of torque in the 2000-4000rpm range over the 234/238 114LSA cam.

Here's why: My dynamic compression has risen from 8.34:1 to 8:73:1! We even saw a huge increase in cranking compression. The 234/238 114LSA cam had 200psi and the new Torque cam has 245psi! Holy smokes!! No wonder my throttle response is instantaneous.

This cam proves that you can have a 110LSA cam and still have excellent street manners and the .637/.639" lift will really compliment my high flowing AFR 225 heads. I will spend this week tweaking my speed density tune, then I hope to go to Houston and put it on the rollers! Torque, Torque, Torque!!

New sig.
any vids or sound clips of this cam.

Just reading through some posts

will this cam you're talking about...

224/228 .637/.639 110LSA (+0)

...work well with either some ported ls6 heads or some PRC 220cc 5.3 heads

That can't be, at least not for 346ci. Patrick's 500rwhp recipe logged 508/445 at the tires, and we all know that you really can't optimize more than that.

The original Torque Cam came out to 459/410

mr. Jones, I'm certainly not trying to pick your combo apart, as no doubt it runs circles around my junk. It's just a significant bit higher than Pat's setup was with largely the same parts.
