Default IMPORTANT: is there an oil restrictor, "barbell restrictor" or any INTERNAL oil plug?

ok, i have a friend who just swapped shortblocks.
hes getting 10PSI when cranking... almost no oil pressure.

i have some people telling me theres a plastic o-ringed pieced needed that i missed...
before we tear his car apart, is there such a thing? what does it do? where does it go?!
could someone circle it on this chart for me??

i have another friend whos engine we just put together, and now hes scared hes going to mess up his motor, since we know we didnt put any such piece in the back of his engine.. however, he does have a newer (after 04) cast block, so maybe it doesnt apply? he has great oil pressure, no known problems.....

help??

Theres a plastic oil galley plug in the rear of the block with an o-ring on it. It's accessable from the rear cover. I noted it's position in red.

Without the "barbell" in the block your oil pressure would probably read zero running. You can pull the oil plug in the back of the block that goes in at a 45 degree angle up on the drivers side and see the shaft of the barbell if it is in place.

Thanks Kurt, we pulled the plug you mentioned and mine was missing. That would explain the 0-10psi we were getting last night. I pulled it out of my older block and will install it in this one when I drop the tranny back out.

Don't forget about the front oil galley plug that's on the front driver's-side of the block. Anytime a customer calls with low oil pressure it's either from the oil galley plug or oil restrictor in the back of the block that were left out.

Wow 2006? Seriously?

The front plug is just like he said, front drivers side. It's the same damn oil galley that the rear barbell goes into, just on the other side.

It's the non-threaded plug that's just to the right of the oil pump.

Better than starting a whole new thread than one already here that pertains to his question verbatim. Also reduces the number of threads one has to read when "searching"... which you would have told him to do had he started a new thread....

It's not a restrictor. It sends oil from the pump into the oil filter boss and also seals the galley so oil doesn't gush into the rear cover.

Why it's needed:

I agree with him. People bitch all the time to use the "search" function. When someone does, find's an old thread that relates to their problem then posts a question they get bitched at.

A lot of people, including myself, don't look at dates when searching old threads.

So what is an acceptable time frame for someone to resurrect and old thread? Six months? A year?

I'm not bashing you at all Paul, I always enjoy your posts and have learned a lot. You just happen to be the guy that asked the question. No flame intended.

No bashing taken LilJ, it's just the way he worded it plus it's his first post-ever-since joining in '09.

The LS1tech search feature does seem to be pretty poor. I've taken to searching on Bing and adding "ls1tech" to my search for words.

PLUS the more threads on any particular subject would result in more search results. I'm all for expanding the knowledge database.

It's the fact that it's such a simple answer. You can seriously type "front oil plug" into a search bar, click images, and find literally dozens of pictures indicating exactly where the plug is in less time than it takes to write the post and submit.

To me, it's like reviving 8 year old threads to ask about torque specs or how to know if you have an LS6 intake on your Fbody.

Does anyone know how to tell if I have a ls6 intake on my car?
