Default Lifter Tick

Ok, well just a little background my car had a tsp231/237 .598/.595 w/7.400" p-rods stock lifters. I changed cams to a xe 224/224 .565/.565 cam. There was a lot of noise in the valvetrain. It would get worse as the car got warmer. When you give it a rev to ~1800rpms it will be really loud and flutter back down to idle. So I decided to change the lifters. Noise was still there. Now I changed the pushrods to 7.425" and the noise basically went away for one day. Then the next day after it got full temps the noise came back. Now here a few days later it's as loud if not louder than it ever was. The oil needs changing soon. Do you think the oil has just sheered down enough to bleed out quickly from the lifters. Or do you think the rockers may be coming loose. I tightened them to 22lb/ft but did not use lock-tite. Last time I used red lock-tite. I wouldn't think you would need it if you tightened to spec. I used the tighten so and so valves at TDC rotate crank 360 degrees tighten the rest.

Could be that the noise is not lifter related but spring related. PRC springs are the same as Patriot springs (same manufacturer), they have be known to have some noise from what I read around.
I have PRC springs as well (platinum) and they are noisier than the 918's I had before. This was on same setup just spring change. Just food for thought.

They've got about 15,000 miles on them as well. That's nice to hear though, thanks for sharing that. The biggest question I have is how is it that it was quite for a day then the noise came back once it got hot. What all would I have to change for the 918's just the retainers? Or the seats as well.

That's what I was going to do actually, haha. I need to change the oil. Only thing is I've got like 4 quarts of 5w30 sitting in my garage. Oh well, maybe a local will use it.

Hmm, well it didn't go away. The tick is still there and I re-checked the rockers to make sure they were tight. Everything is perfect except for the noise. Maybe not enough pushrod?

Are you using your stock heads? Maybe there is too much pushrod if your heads have been milled. Are you the first owner of the car?

No. Not the first owner. Heads have some porting done to them, don't know how good, but I can see the tooling marks and they went into the rocker arm bolt holes slightly like a lot of ported heads. They could be milled I guess. Too much pushrod wouldn't cause ticking though I wouldn't think. But in any case before this cam I had a tsp 231/237 with 7.400" rods and it was perfect.
