Default Looking for a cam recommendation

I am in the process of buying my y-pipe for my headers, a cam, oil-pump, timing chain, and a mail-order tune. I will not be buying anything more for at least a year, so no heads or LS6 intake. What would be your recommendations. I was thinking a 224 or up to a torquerer, depending on if i can use 918's on it. Where abouts would i start to not gain anymore with stock heads/intake? Thanks

that is a pretty wide range of cams from the 224 to the Trq'r.
well, the stock heads and intake are gonna choke you up pretty good the bigger you go cam wise. With the range that you were looking at as far as cams go, I would advise something in the 224-228 range. The stock 853 casting heads that you have on the car will barely hang in there with it, and you would see a lot more power with appropriate heads/intake combo.

What are your ultimate goals for this setup? Race? street?
It all depends on what you are wanting to do. Are you planning on a power adder such as FI or Nitrous in the future? It will just help you not spend 2x the money when you could take care of this stuff before hand and still have it work out.

So basically with the mods you have listed in your sig and with a cam in the 224-228,230 range you would be sitting right about the 370 mark as far as rear wheel hp goes.

By the way I run 918's and have for a while on my 244/248 cam and it hasn't skipped a beat.

wow, your fast

I would hope for 400 at the wheels, but wasn't thinking I could really get that. Pretty much just for the street. Tired of what it is now, need a litle more kick. Come summer it will be my DD. As much as i want to go FI, I don't see that happening for 5+ while i save so I won't be buying anything now for the future. The only 2 things I might do, but not for another year would be heads and ls6 intake. If i was to buy a bigger cam like the torquer, would I just not get that extra HP now, or would it run like ****? I really don't mind knowing that I have another 15hp or so extra all ready once I do get heads/intake.

The 918's are good for .600 lift (i think?) how close would you recommend comming to that as a max?

I started out with a 224 and was very happy with it. It was great for the street. Then I went with the G5X3, and I couldnt be happier. My heads make it even better.

i say keep it mild for now since you don't plan upgrades anytime soon, maybe the 224/228 or 228/228, both on xer lobes the 918 springs should be more than adequate.
