Default Affordable heads for 408

I don't have a lot of money right now, but these stock 317 heads are choking the setup to no avail. I've only got LS6/ported TB at the moment so no 90/90 yet. I want to get the heads dealt with first, then the intake setup can be swapped easy. So what are some budget heads available that work well with a 408 N/A setup built for around 11.2:1 SCR (with 72cc heads)? I want to keep my SCR up in that range as I won't be going power adder. My setup is listed below:

HPE 408
11.2:1 SCR
244/248 635/627 112
Eagle crank
Callies rods
Diamond flat top pistons w/ 2cc reliefs
Stock 6.0 heads
SVO 42 #'s
LS6 intake
P/P stock TB
Edelbrock 1 7/8 stepped LT's/ORY
LM catback

I made 425/445 with this setup but am looking to get more towards 500 with some *cheaper* heads and a 90/90 eventually.

Have you looked into the DART 225's yet? Texasspeed's got um for $1400 or the PRC stage2/3 cnc''d versions for $1600/1900

Negative, haven't been hearing much about budget heads for 408's since most threads are about the ETP's or another set of badass heads that I can't afford. I'm looking for some heads in the range of $1000-$1300 most likely. I'm just trying to get some decent improvement over the stock 317's without breaking the bank for the upcoming 90/90.

Problem is, affordable and power don't exactly fit in the same sentence.

Everyone always says this, so i'm sure you've heard it before.... Don't skimp on heads. It's the one part that is the base of all your power to come

HEar it all the time "all your power comes from the heads" save up for another month or two til you can afford some AFR or comparable heads!

Jason99T/A made 505rwhp with a 382 and PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads.

I will be putting a set of the PRC stage 2.5 (2.04/1.575 valves) LS6/LS2 heads on my motor.

i'm going the 402 route and i guess i will just have to splurge and get the ets or afrs probably. i think sdpc has a budget type head that put up 619 fwhp with the sdpc shortblock, 90/90 and 242/242 cam. the ported darts or prcs may be close as well.

Summit Racing has them cheaper. I believe they are $1260 and their shipping and handling is only $9.50

Yeah, go give those dart 225s a serious look. Theyre pretty good unported and even better once theyre cut into.

Texas Speed is using PRC stage 3's on their 402 motors and are claiming 550rwhp with the correct bolt ons, would say thats pretty decent.

I ordered a set of Dart 225's for my Procharged 408. Still several weeks away from any results, but from my research they seem to be a pretty good bang for the buck.

How much were they and where did you get them? So the Dart 225's flow around 300's out of the box? What's the bore/cc size on them? I can't seem to find them on TSP's site.

What do they consist of - valve size, guides, valves, springs, bore size, cc, etc? Any flow/dyno numbers from those heads or ones like them?

I'll check into Summit's pricing for the Dart's and see what comes along with them.

Ferrea valves I believe, 2.08/1.60, Patroit Gold springs, set up for 4.125 bore. Should be fine for you. Pics and flow #'s in sig. I was thinking about letting them go for a grand since prices have been dropping. That's about a $900 hit

Alright, just checked out the Dart 225's on TSP's site but it doesn't say what bore size they are. Does anyone know? Would it be possible to get these with a bigger cc as well (already at 11.2:1 with 72cc heads)?
