Default Tightening rear intake manifold bolts

I will be re-installing my intake this weekend, has anyone found a good way to get a torque wrench on the rear intake bolts?

Also, the service manual calls for GM part # 12345382 on the intake bolts, I assume the Loctite 242 is the equivalent.

I didn't use a torque wrench on those bolts. You should be able to get it pretty close by feel. I don't think loc-tite is necessary on those bolts. FWIW.

Service Manual specifically calls out the thread locker, GM Part # 12345382 on these threads. Probably because of the shifting of the heads heating and cooling.

You're right, the manual does call for thread locker. I think it's just your standard blue T.L. I'm doing heads this spring, so I'll go ahead and use thread locker this time. The torque sequence is 44 ft/lbs first pass, then 89 second pass.

I bought some ARP 12-point manifold bolts that look awesome. If you can get the torque wrench in there, I bet it would be easier to torque 'em with 12-point heads.

I used the built in torque wrench in my elbow and no loctite on my intake three years ago..no problems..remember it is aluminum..do not tighten it too much...

I use a 1\4 inch ratchet to fit back up under the cowl.

It is thread lock, which is like plumbers teflon tape, but a paste. I had no problems getting a torque wrench on the back bolts.

I torque all the intake bolts with a small Craftsman inch-lb torque wrench. No problem reaching them with the windshield cowl piece moved out of the way.

I used a 1/4" inlb torque wrench with a long 10 mm socket and didnt have any problems. I didnt remove anything like the cowl and had the rails on the intake as well.

Hey vettenuts I seen you got those nuts off the studs in the other thread. I'm going to have to get one of those tools in case it ever happens to me. Anyway I'm glad you got it taken care of.

Sounds like slt200mph knows about the builtin God given torque wrenchs we all have. The ratings are as follows:
Wrist: in/lbs.
Elbow: ft/lbs.
Shoulder: Crankshft pulley bolt
If any of your God given torque wrenchs tell you you've exceded the value on your mechanical torque wrench a little lite bulb is supposed to go off in your head to tell you to stop turning. If it doesn't go off you probably need a new lite bulb.

I use the german method for tightening all my bolts. Guten Tight.

Seriously though. Just tighten them until they're tight. I usually just use a 1/4" ratchet back there and snug them down. I've also never used loctite on any of those bolts. The majority of the factory bolts come with thread locker already applied on the bolts just because they do not want a car coming back in due to a bolt backing out.
