Default 450rwhp in a F-body???

I am looking for a way to make my 00trans am to be a 450rwhp car. I talked to a guy at STS turbo abd i could run the 8psi kit on my car and put down over 500hp but that will cost a good 5grand. So i was wondering if there was a decent head and cam package that would help me achieve my goal a bit cheaper plus i like the idea of all motor. Suggestions??? Right now im full bolt ons.

all out heads/cam will do it. especially if you go with good flowing heads.

are you A4 or M6?
head and cam setups go from mild to wild
450 is a strong head and cam package. If you are looking for #'s like that, i would look at some AFR heads, a pretty good sized cam, and the fast 90/90 intake.

im no expert but I believe its rare to get that kind of horsepower with heads/cam on stock cubes. and if you did manage to get that kind of hp you'd better have a good tuner. to get 450rwhp on an ls1 your probably going to have to add some cubes, which means you'll end up spending more money than buying the sts kit. i like the idea of all motor too, but that all changed when I took a ride in an sts powered car making 550 rwhp. There aint nothing like a forced induction v8, i originally wanted a turbo but am going to get a procharger because i all ready have headers and a x-pipe and I dont want to get rid of either. im sure some others with much more experience will chime in but from what i read on here im pretty sure they will tell you the same thing.

You will need some really good heads, some more compression and a bigger cam with a 90MM setup.

well, you may want to reconsider 450rwhp in any f-body if you don't want to dish out $5,000. Because with 150 rwhp MORE than stock things will start to break... and break very very expensively. Maybe you have considered that and just didn't mention it.. but it's always good to be careful.

btw, I think MS3 + bottle is an awesome way to make power if you're into that sort of thing but then again spray is even less "motor" than turbos or blowers.

450 rwhp is not that hard to achieve. We have a guy here that made that with ported LS1 heads and a 236/230 cam, and a fast 78 intake.

A good head/cam setup can be north of $8,000 once you factor in everything you need... and that doesn't include installation.

Sound steep? Look at this list:
-AFR Cylinder Heads
-Camshaft
-Underdrive Pulley
-Ported LS6 Oil Pump
-Double Roller Timing Set
-Hydraulic Roller Lifters
-Cometic Gasket Set
-GM Gaskets and Bolts
-ARP Head Studs
-Mezeire Electric Water Pump
-NGK Spark Plugs
-MSD Spark Plug Wires
-SVO 30lbs Fuel Injectors
-Air Intake
-FAST LSX 90mm Intake Manifold & NW 90mm Throttle-Body
-1-3/4" Longtube Headers
-Catback exhaust or True Duals

Sure, you can go with cheaper heads and leave off the FAST and save 2k+, but you really shouldn't skimp on anything or omit what I posted. Not if you want to do it right. If you already have headers/intake/exhaust, then you can subtract a good 1k or more depending on what you purchased. Still, after subtracting those items, you're down to around $5,000.

If you go with a rear mounted turbo (sts), the headers can stay on the car. And you do not need a muffler.

I am putting down some decent numbers, and I don't have the 90/90 set up and stock heads. I figure with the 90/90 and a nice set of heads I will be well over 450

My thoughts exactly. I see a number of folks making ~415-425whp with modest heads and a nice chunky cam, a little more massaging of the intake w/ a 90/90 setup, TB, fatter LT's etc.. and it's not so far off IMO.

My setup on a M6 would get you the 450.

450 is not to hard to make now days. i made 455rwhp/413rwqu with absolute stage 2.5's, G5X3 112, and the 90mm setup.

also, i bought the heads (barely used), cam, 90mm throttle body, pacesetter headers, 85mm lid off of this site and save alot of money. you can find alot of good deals on here.

Sound steep? Look at this list:
-AFR Cylinder Heads (Nice, but could go with heads half the price and achieve 450rwhp)
-Camshaft
-Underdrive Pulley
-Ported LS6 Oil Pump
-Double Roller Timing Set (Could go with a single ls2 chain and save >$100)
-Hydraulic Roller Lifters (Don't need, but a good idea)
-Cometic Gasket Set (Definatly don't need to spend $200 on gaskets when you could get GM MLS for <$80)
-GM Gaskets and Bolts (Not sure what this is for if you already have cometics and arp studs)
-ARP Head Studs
-Mezeire Electric Water Pump (definatly a waste of money if you are only trying for 450rwhp)
-NGK Spark Plugs
-MSD Spark Plug Wires
-SVO 30lbs Fuel Injectors
-Air Intake
-FAST LSX 90mm Intake Manifold & NW 90mm Throttle-Body (Ls6 with ported throttle body will get the job done and save $1500)
-1-3/4" Longtube Headers
-Catback exhaust or True Duals
I think your list is a little overboard on items. If you want to do a really nice job I'd leave off the things in bold. You could leave lifters out but like I said this will be a nice setup built to last.

Here's my list:
All gaskets (thunder) - $230
ARP Head Studs - $235
PRC springs & TSP Pushrods - $370
Cam - $350
Underdrive Pulley - $190
Ported LS6 Pump - $130
LS2 Timing Chain - $35
NGK Plugs and MSD Wires - $70
SVO 30# Injectors - $300
Lid - $100
Ported TB - $75
LS6 Intake - $450
Pacesetter LT's - $375
TSP Duals - $410
Patriot Stg. 2 "ls6 style" heads - $1300
Comp 850-16 Lifter $180

You could probably save another $300 by buying the gaskets you need individually and using the GM bolts and gaskets supplied by patriot.

That right there should net you ~450rwhp. Keep in mind that if you went FI you are going to need half of the stuff on this list anyhow to be effecient.

That's a total of $4,800 with the studs and gaskets or $4,500 using stock GM stuff which is perfectly fine. A far cry from $8,000. And it's still done right.

If you wanted to skimp here and there you could get this done for <$4,000 but I wouldn't want to go to bed at night wondering if my lifters, oil pump, injectors, or stock gaskets will hold on.
