Mine does the same as the post above. And, it's happened through TWO motors! So I don't worry about it, my thoughts are valve train noises from an aluminum block through stainless steel headers. Car runs fine.

Viper, did your motors always make the noise, or just start one day?

Since the first startup on the motors. After reading all these posts about it, the only other thought is what was kept with each motor: idler pulley. TO bearings been replaced with every clutch swap (4 ). Have a UD pulley now. I just noticed you have SW headers too, although I know they work very well.

I'd just pull the valve covers and make sure a rocker didn't spew the needle bearings, that's what mine sounded like when it happened....and it still pulled hard and started and ran fine, but I'm sure full scale carnage wasn't far off had I not pulled the valve covers......do it if only for piece of mind.

check this link for info on rocker arms failing....

How do i know if it has lost the needle bearings, What would be a visible sign on the rocker?

if it's after a cam swap and you kept your stock pushrods it's probably valvetrain noise as long as it's a tick and not a knock. I'd pull the covers for peace of mind though.

Mine does the same thing, can't hear it under the hood, but its loud beside the car, especially if you drive by something.

It drives me completly insane.

If someone figures this out let me know. I have the exact same symptoms. Can't hear it under the hood, standing on the drivers side it's kinda loud. Annoys the hell outta me. It started when I put the headers on. Car runs fine, just makes a ticking sound.

Formula make sure you check your plugs and header bolts, some could be loose. I had a loose spark plug and it sounded similar to this.

I've checked the header bolts and they are all tight. I was just going to check the plugs in a week or so when I do my cam swap. I'm positive they were all tight when I installed them, unless one has loosened up. If it's a loose plug I'm going to give myself a good

Formula i've been there done that, pulled the valve covers because of the tick and everything was fine in there, and THEN i check the plugs realizing that could be a problem and sure enough it was oh well live and you learn

Plugs can come undone every once and awhile. From what I understand, MSD superconductir ires, which I have, tend to come off more often. I just check to see if mine are tightened down once every two weeks or so. One thing I havent check yet is if my header bolts are tightnened down but I couldnt imagine they would have come loose. I have never even toughed the headers since ive owned the car. Im starteing to get a little worried though cause there have been case of lifters going bad or starting to go bad and I really dont want that to happen.

Nokeman i'm really hoping myself it isn't a lifter. Although to me, when i think about it, since the sound comes from down below more then up top and it isn't a plug it really gets me worried learning towards thinking it is a lifter, once i get home from school today i'm pulling the valve cover to check on the needle bearings, following it with an oil change, then i'll fire it up again and see what i got.

Well wouldnt a lifter be heard more from up top than down from below? I could just be mistaken...
