Talking

GC is $6 around here. That is $36 a oil change and $46 with a K&N filter. A small amount to pay for peace of mind IMO.

I like the amsoil race oil. its all i use. i have not had any bearing iussues and spin the hell outa my car. but it sees very little street miles and i change the oil just about every race weekend so i might not have the long term data you need.

When it was a h/c only car i used mobil 1 put 90K on it in 3 years, motor looked good when we took it out.... other than the hydro locked cylander LOL

Royal Purple sure looks impressive doesn't it?
I've been using this stuff for the last 4 years in my stroker and the motor is running as smooth and as strong as the day it was built with 30K HARD miles on the clock. If you have $$$$ invested in your motor then the extra few bucks for RP is warranted.

GC is recommended by both BMW and Mercedes, and BMW is going with 15k oil change intervals. Do you think they might know something???????????

But most that run it use the race blend 40, which I am told is the equivelent of a 5w-40.
Daryl, it's no gimmick. I've worked in several oil refineries and chemical plants across the midwest, from Citgo to Marathon to BP, and they all exclusively use Royal Purple as their lubricants of choice. That's not just oils, but gear lubes, greases, everything. Seems pretty telling to me when a company could use their own junk at a huge savings but they choose to run RP because it's just that good. I am not 100% up on this, but I seem to have heard after Mobil lost that lawsuit to Castrol over Syntec not really being a true (PAO I believe) synthetic, that Mobil 1's quality has suffered somewhat. But, since I don't use it, I don't really bother myself with the details. Peace

I dont have an LS1 (yet... ) but I use Mobil 1 in my GTP and my Maxima. I use Castrol GTX in my 91 RS simply because the previous owner didnt take good care of the 305 thats in it now.

My GTP has 204,000 miles on the clock. Never a problem with bearings and such. It smokes a lil on start-up (valve seals) and when its been idling for a long time. It has a valve cover leak from hell though. Mind you, my GTP has had a HARD WOT life. Drag racing, top end blasts, etc. Most GTP's would have spun a bearing by now.

Mobil 1 for me!

I won't vote because I don't think there is that much difference to make a
a difference for me. I think of it as drinking Bud or Miller they are both premium beers.

I normally run 5W-30 M1 in VA. When I was in Jacksonville I ran 10W-30 RP, because the M1 oil pressure was lower, below average. I even noticed the time the oil pressure drops in VA but they are short on Pep Boys and Napas for the RP. I think the hotter the weather the more the viscosity ie 10W, and the wieght -30 is more dependant on the mileage of the motor and wear. The Rp is deffinetly better if you drive daily, rp's 5W-30 is the same as m1's 10W-30, even after beating the life out of the oil. I get on my car WOT almost daily and It always has good oil pressure with RP, trough traffic or normal drive.
