LSx engines, like many modern engines, have roller cams. Recently (a few years back) the flat tappet community started experiencing a lot of cam failures on new cam installs. Everyone started blaming the cam manufacturers but, after investigating, it was learned that oil manufacturers have reduced/eliminated the zinc content in modern oils. The zinc is a 'high pressure' additive that today's roller cams don't need. However, the 'old style' flat tappet cams/lifters still need the protection that zinc offers. That is why the 'old crowd' runs Rotella diesel oil - Rotella still has the zinc.

I'm not voting because I only have experience with mobil 1. I have ran Mobil 1 and NAPA gold filters since I bought my car 2 years ago and at the most my oil consumption is 1/2 a quart in 3000-3500mi oil changes on a 98 TA with 97K

Currently I run the RP 5W-30 but in the past I used Mobile 1. I have never had a problem with either. I have no experience with the Castrol. Other than the RP or Mobile 1 the only other oil I would personally use is Amsoil.

I ran Castrol in the Shelby for years, but not the euro synth. Mobil One in several cars, with no problems. The Vette had it to start, and haven't changed brands. 72k fairly aggressive miles, and still no consumption between changes. Seems to take the temperatures well (it runs about 205F winter, closer to 225F summer). We put my wife's Grand Prix on it, too. Amzoil has been good, but a retired professor of auto engineering I know used to sell it and doesn't anymore. He advises M1, and uses it in his C4. I'm open to checking out alternatives, but will stay with the M1 until I'm sure of the change. Not because it's on my fill cap, but because the car is working well.

But most that run it use the race blend 40, which I am told is the equivelent of a 5w-40.
i work for a bmw dealer and its what we use oil change intervals on bmw's are every 15,000 miles so i would say this stuff works

I've had very good oil reports with the Green GC... in fact I have have about 5 oil changes worth of the stuff left. After I run out of that I'll probably use either the Amsoil Euro 5w-40, Series 2000 0w-30, or Mobil 1 0w-40.

um have any of you heard about the 2007 regulations on oil having less ZDDP/ zinc in it? everyone is talking about oil pressure and temperature and oil consumption. well that does matter but if your pushing low zinc/molly oils through your engine it doesn't matter what psi it's doing it at? In my big block Chevy i run Rottela T 15-40 CI4 not the new CJ4 with lower friction additives and lower zinc levels. but then again i guess i have an old school engine....

You know whats in my car ma' its that purple stuff.
I have been using RP for the longest. With tthat being said though I changed my oil every 2000 miles on my 98 Z28 and this will be my first change on my C5. I dont go very long without changing oil so I cant speak on it breaking down between intervals because I dont give it enough time.

You are wasting a lot of money and oil sir..synthetic oils will last a lot longer..I have 130,000 miles on mine (M1 0-40) with oil change intervals at 5000 miles ... the car uses 3/4 of a quart between changes and I run the car hard..it gets driven like a hot rod should...meaning it sees the red line (6800 rpms) every day .. I've had the oil analized and it has a lot more life in it after 5K..

Simple, I tested it with friends, Mobil 1 kept a constant Oil pressure at the track, thru cold (morning) and hot (afternoon) Castrol actually dropped by a few PSI during the day.
