In my SDPC 416 I am using Rotella 15w-40 for the first 3,000 miles, which has a high particulate concentration of ZINC. I also added a bottle of comp cams engine break-in additive, which also has ZINC in it!
After the first 3,000 miles I am switching to AMSOIL 10w-40 and I will continue to add the ZINC for protection. When I first bought my car it had 92,000 miles on it. I stated using Amsoil 10w-40 at that time. Never consumed a drop of oil!
I have used both Mobil1 and AMSOIL. I use Mobil1 in the family cars. Both are good, but I prefer the AMSOIL in my Z-28

Mobil 1 for Life. As far as Royal Purple. I've heard of to many buddies and random people who race bikes blowning their engines after switching to Royal Purple. No feed back on cars although.

Mobil1 EP 15w50 here.
Just my opinion, but if you have oil consumption problems, you should find the source of the problem before. If you think it is because of synthetic oil use, change to a high quality petrolium based oil and watch your usage and pressure. Check the PCV, behind the throttle plate for oil in the intake, try a catch can. Wasting money on different $6 a quart magic oil is not the best troubleshooting method. Just my two cents.
