Default Whats the best cam for AFR 205 heads?

If I decide to keep my car I'm gonna get some AFR's. I already have a heads and cam set up with MMS stage 2 heads and a F4 FMS cam 226/226 575/575 114lsa. I'd wanna get the most out of the AFR heads so I could leave the cam and see how it does with the heads or try to find a better cam. Thanks,

I think the formula Tony has been sticking w/ is a 224/228 .581/.588 114 or 112 cam, then milling the heads to a 62cc to raise your CR to 11.2:1. You'll have great driveability and excellent power under the curve. I'm sure Tony will chime in though to give you a better run down.

not to jack your thread, but will reverse split cams work well with the afr heads rather than the traditional split cams?

I'm pretty sure, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the reverse splits are usually best for turbos. A traditional split is best for the majority of our setups. *I think* tony would recommend no more duration than a 224/228 with afr heads that are milled .030. If you want to flycut, you can go bigger. If not milled, then you can get a little bit more aggressive w/o flycutting. Btw, "best" is relative to your goals. If you want the best street car, ur cam would be different than the best track car.

Are we talking best cam with AFR 205s and no flycutting or are we allowing flycutting?

Pretty close to what I was going to run with my AFR 205's, before I discovered my "disaster", and wound up re-building the entire engine (forged bottom-end stroker), and having to move up to AFR 225's.

With the 205's I had a Comp 224*/228*, .581/.588 on a 114* LSA. I shouldn't say "had"....I still have the cam new-in-the-box. The 205 heads sold in about 30 seconds, but I can't seem to give the cam away.

I have the exact same problem as bichin95redta. I was going to run 205s milled .030 on my stock short with the new "Patrick G" cam but blew away a bearing. I just got the cam today And a shameless plug, it's for sale...https://ls1tech.com/forums/lsx-parts-sale/492468-brand-new-patrick-g-cam-cometics-arp-studs.html

Yeah I rode in a car with a similar setup to yours, only instead of AFRs he had stage 3 LS6 heads. After riding in that thing and getting back in my car, my car felt slooow . I plan on doing AFR heads with an F14 cam, just gotta look into it more before I do it. You wouldn't by chance have a dyno sheet now would you

ill have to rescan and post it, its been over a year.
good move on AFRs, with a good matching cam your car will make very nice power across the entire board not just at peak.

First, your current cam would probably be fine. Use 1.8 rockers if you want to make it a little more aggressive.

Otherwise, Patrick G has been playing with a cam similar to a Trak with LSK lobes on both intake and exhaust and the smaller 223/227 durations.

First, you need to determine the operating range of your engine. If you care about 4000-7000 and don't care if will run in traffic, you could go in the 240s. However, if you want something that won't wake the neighbors yet power peak over 6000, then something in the 220-230 range with may be a 4° or so split will work.

Another wild card is emissions. If you have to pass, you are also going to be looking at something in the 220-224 range with a wider 114 or so LSA.
