Default Flycutting?

All right, I'am going to be purchasing the TTPerformance stage 4 heads and cam combo. It says that flycutting is required, thats all good but what is flycutting? Sorry for the neebie questions but i have nevee had to do this before. What do they do when they flycut? Also can you do it, or does a machine shop have to do it?Thanks for the help in advance.

It is notching your pistons so that there will be no P/V contact with larger cams. You can do it yourself. we need alot more info cam size, combustion chamber cc, Etc. The guy that is selling you this combo should have given you this information.

Not to be insulting, but if youre not sure what flycutting means, are you sure you want to go with something this agressive? Dont get cought up in HP numbers, as theres a lot more to the story. Some of the highest HP cars feel really soft on the street because they lose so much low end torque due to the monster cams. On second though, looking at your sig it looks like this might be a track car and you know exactly what youre getting yourself into.

Like the others said, its notching the pistons. To do it yourself you need the isky cutter and a junk head with the valve seats pulled out. LG motorsports will rent you both. Youll also need a drill with the smallest 90* angle attachment you can find.

fly cutting is when you make a certain "cc" of relief for your valves on the piston head using a certain tool which this process help accomodate cams with high lifts to avoid piston to valve collision. Which will in deed **** your motor up.

WRONG. its not the high lifts, its the overlap conditions-when the intake and exhaust valves are open at TDC

What if instaed of going with their combo I just bought their heads and then went with the MS3? Would I still need to flycut? Is it all in the heads?

If youre certain that you do indeed want to go this big on the h/c setup, then yes, id take a look at the MS3 and a set of LS6 heads. Depending on the heads and valves used, you probably dont have to flycut.

Ported LS6 heads are making some insane numbers on the dyno. Id go with ported LS6 heads, and MS3. Thats a really nice setup.

I agree that sounds like a very strong setup, but it would be nice to see if the TTP package puts down close to what they claim.

Yes, the heads in the combo are AFR 225s ported and I believe milled by TTP. Their V4 cam is slightly larger than the MS3 from what I understand.

Ya i saw it made 505hp in their car, but its not that numbers that get me to buy the package its the time, with just their h/c combo, headers, and a turbo 350 they ran 10.33. So that basicallly sold me. Plus they has 4.10's. now throw a 75 shot and you could have a 9sec stock bottom end for a lil while. LOL.
