Default Cam swap

I'm doing my first cam swap next weekend. My buddy thnks that I will need a chip to get the car to run. From everything that I have read I shouldn't have to do that. My understanding is that the engine managment will "learn" the cam and it will run. All I want to do is get it put together and running so I can get it dynoed. Tell me i'm not nuts and that a cam swap on a LS1 is possible without any computer work.

depends on the cam.

I installed a TR230/224 a couple of weeks ago. I have an M6, and driveability was not that bad. I followed www.ls1howto.com to the "T". My tuner came over about 2 weeks after it was running and fine tuned everything.

I see your cam is a little bigger than mine 233/239. what lsa is it?

You should be ok, even with aggressive cam to at least get to the dyno-shop for a professional tune.... Don't wait too long. Driving in very lean/rich conditions is BAD !

Above is correct, you'll be fine......and there are no "chips" for ls1's. You have to change parameters with tuning software.

LS1s have no "chips." It will run without any changes, but it won't be fun. It might take a few tries to get it to idle the first time, and you'll have to drive carefully to make sure it runs smoothly...and keeps running.

Get it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing as soon as you can. You do have a plan to get it tuned, right....?

The specs are TSP 233/239 595/605 113LSA. I have another vehicle to drive and don't plan to drive it much until the tune. I will have Exotic Performance Plus in Ft. Wayne, IN tune the car the week after the install. I knew there were no chips available for the LSX cars, but I was worried after my buddy mentioned it. The last thing I wanted to do was to tear it apart, install the cam and have to tow it to the dyno shop. Wish me luck on the install

If you don't even know as blkZ28spt mentioned that your vehicle doesn't have a chip in a socket that can be replaced, but has an eeprom that is "reflashed" you havn't had your head in any car books or magazines for quite a number of years nor have you been logging onto this website for very long. You better get to LS1HowTo REAL FAST and ask a lot of question here BEFORE you start turning wrenches. If not we'll be reading a posting here by you very soon describing another of the numerous horror stories posted here over the years. Remember: " A little knowledge can be dangerous"!

I've owned 3 LSX cars and have spent a fair amount of time on this and other sites, as well as, read numerous magazines on and about LSX motors. I have never done an internal mod like a cam swap on one of these motors. So, when my buddy mentioned a "chip" to me I was confident that there was no such thing, but I wanted to be sure of it before I took my car apart. That's all. After all there is no tech line for this stuff.

NOT TRUE! THIS is the tech line. It's called LS1TECH for a reason!

That's my point! There is no one else I can call on this.
