forged pistons?
I'm currently running a 2001 trans am ws6 6spd and it has nothing but bolt-ons externally
I want to upgrade next with forged pistons to withstand the STS turbo kit. I know also to get upgraded fuel pump, injectors, etc.... I just need to know about the pistons.
would running the stock compression with the 5lbs be my best bet, as I would be keeping it at 5lbs(seriously).??
or should I go with a little lower compression and run 5lbs?
which would make more power? as i know there is a relationship between boost compression and power

thing is we have painted the front bird black and want to leave it that way...if anything I might to just meth injection(i think u can do that...can't remember)

we will also probably be doing a cam swap with ls1speeds turbo cam 225/225 .... along with getting my FAST intake mani ported and ls1 heads ported...so I know it will put out some power, as a friend is making 478hp and 500tq with his car and it is similar to my setup(less mods and no cam..just ported).
should i lower the compression or just leave it at 10.1 to take advantage of the boost @5lbs and the other mods
part numbers or some info would be appreciated. I know ls1speed has diamond pistons...and other online places...

If you plan on staying 5psi then you are fine as you are. A meth injection will allow to raise that to 7psi (maybe a little more) very safely.
Besides the Speed inc cam, you will benefit from a reverse split as well.
i recommend the Stealth II cam 224/220, .581/.581 116+0

2 of my friends went FI at 5lbs and cracked their ringlands with the stock pistons. one of them lost their block...I'm not going to worry about something happening. I'm going to be getting forged pistons and the STS kit...then a cam
I just need the specs on the correct pistons to get and whether i should just get forged standard ls1 pistons or go with dished pistons and lower the compression a tad
where can the stealth II cam be bought at? is that MTI? can't remember who makes the stealth name

One more thing. For the love of GOD, when you order your pistons, lets say a 3.905" bore and the spec sheet says you need .004" clearance, DO NOT ADD .004" TO THE BORE!! The piston is made to fit bore it's intended for.

and i'm not going to bullshit and do a half *** job on installation like most people do....so far I have done everything right and its going to stay that way. before the car hits the pavement it will be safe to drive and all boost problems/vacuum lines...etc will be checked and there will be ventilation on the valve cover....as you have to do so on boosted cars..otherwise you start blowing things out of wholes...
hhhmmmm...lets see how many people up here have blown there oil fill cap off...or their dipstick out....
my friend is helping a guy with the STS kit now, and i have been there the whole time they have been working on it(dynoing) and the guy installed it half ***

seen 3 of my friends think the same thing....and guess what...cracked ringlands....
could have also been on a bad tune...regardless of that

Are you saying with forged pistons and lean motor you won't damage your pistons or engine?
I don't see why you can't have a good tune on 5 psi with stock motor that will be safe for as long as you can dream.

......damn this could go on forever....
the point is you have to run a safe tune on the stock pistons so you don't have to worry about it and you are probably losing some power.
So, get forged pistons and get a good tune in it so that it is still running rich enough that you don't hurt the motor and i would bet it would make more power....
anything else someone wants to add? I understand that the stock block/pistons would run on a safe tune probably forever....
I just don't want a simple safe tune... i want a good tune and pistons that will last, as a friend messed up his block completely and he has still got a messed up setup now.

the block has to be honed to add pistons on a used block right? I'd suggest just paying up for a forged shortblock and going from there. Make the setup what you want.

im making 505hp and 520tq im running 7lbs of boost but i have a fmic.but im also running the f13 cam.so 5lbs should be good on the stock bottem end.got my car done by trt.

Going FI your tune has to be right anyways.
So, you want to do it right? then listen.
Forged shortblock with boost pistons, and boost ring gaps. Now you want to use your block it is fine. But you need to yank it out and send it for the rebuilt.

does the block have to be honed out?...
what would these pistons change? compression ratio any?
