Default dumb question...

It's a dumb question, but just give some imput...

Don't have a cam, but i have heads to install...Was wondering if it would be ok to put on a set of AFR's with 921 springs on my car for the moment and doing the cam later down the road...

Would be using comp pushrods and R lifters, cometic gaskets, and whatnot...

If it would be a dumb idea, i'll wait until i buy the cam later this month...Just a little bored and want to work on the car now...

Shouldn't be a problem, I ran prc duals on my stock cam for a while. The whole install would be easier to do at once though.

I dont see a problem with doing the heads now, installing a cam later is fine.

Put the heads on already! You arent going to wear out those springs on a stock hydraulic roller! All you will have to do down the road is pull the rockers and take the pushrods out....no need for the springs to come off with the cam install.

your stock cam isn't even going to phase those springs.

I wouldn't do that, if I were you. If I didn't have my head up my *** when I read your original post, you're going to install pushrods, lifters, and the heads now, and then do the cam later? If this is true, then when you install your new cam, you'll pull the valve covers off, loosen the rockers, pull out the pushrods, and remove the front drive. Then you'll spin your cam to seat the lifters in the lifter trays, lube-up your new cam, and slide 'er in? Is that your plan? If it is, and you hear one or more of your lifters drop and rattle around on top of your windage tray before you get the old cam all the way out, or the new one all the way in, you're gonna want to puke all over your engine.

Do it all at once. At least with the heads off, you'll be able to pull the lifters and their trays out, BEFORE you pull out your old cam. The plastic trays are a cool idea, but they DO NOT grip the lifters for a long enough period of time, with 100% reliability, to be certain that one of 'em won't drop out of the tray before your new cam is in. If one or more of your lifters drop, you are going to be doing a lot of extra work. I'm sure guys on this board have done a cam swap successfully with the lifters seated in their trays, and that's great, but if one drops, you aren't going to like it.

Don't even think about dropping the pan a little to get the dropped lifter off the windage tray. I tried it. It doesn't work.

If your plan is different than what I posted, and I misunderstood you, then just forget this post.........

OK did it tonight...

Changed the heads, pushrods, and gaskets...Stock lifters and everything looked great...

Seems like it's rediculously rich all over, has the hesitation and whatnot, and makes a pop at idle from unburned fuel...Got codes of course...Other than that, i feel a difference...

Is this a too much fuel thing, or an octane thing...Running 91 octane on 59cc heads...

May go for some new Tr55's to replace the old TR6's that came out...

What do you guys think?

TR6's should be better for higher compression. Need to do some tuning, that's what's causing your problems.
