Unhappy Still consuming oil

Well since my motor build, there is about 5k on the car. I was consuming oil when I was running 10w30. I switched to 10w40 now, thinking that would solve the problem. I had to put 1.5 quarts in it yesterday. The car hasnt been tuned yet though. Will a tune help me out with this problem? Mods are in my sig. Thanks for any help/input on this subject.

for the first 500 miles I ran regualar non synthetic 10w30. The block was honed, cleaned, new bearings and I put new piston rings in it. After 500 miles I switched to Mobile 1 10w30. Now I am running Castrol syntech 10w40.

Maybe the rings didn't seat right. Have you done a compression/leakdown test on it?

What's your PCV situation? I was sucking it down to the tune of 1qt. per 2000 miles. I then purchased the $37 GM upgrade kit which relocates the pick up to the front with a new valley cover and I don't add a drop in between changes now. I think the F body got the upgrade as stock in '01. Hope that helps.

Did you take out your PVC system, if so it can consume some oil, maybe look into a catch can or a metco breather filter. I would try those first.

Well I deleted the PCV. I got the breather for the oil cap, and put a small breather on the drivers side valve cover where the PVC goes in, then capped up all the rest of the lines that come out of the valve cover, intake.

Mine is drinking oil due to some head sealing issues. I popped my intake off to check out the intake valves and had oil sitting on them. Some pics are in this thread. https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/496219-darts-worth-600-more-than-tsp-s-ls6-heads.html

I just want you to be able to rule out the top end of the motor. Good luck!

What is this $37 GM upgrade kit?? Got a part number? Will it work on my 01 HD 6.0 as well?

I beleive he's talking about the LS6 PCV conversion. With the LS6 conversion the pick up will be in the front of the valley cover.

The part # for the new valley cover with the PCV pick up in the front of the motor is #12568002. I paid $37, it is apparently around $45 now. You will still need the hoses however. I have a list of part numbers that I ordered at the same time. I don't remember anymore which is which, this was 4 years ago. Good luck.
