Default Are ls1's tougher than the average bear?

I am in a discussion on another site, between the 6g72 twin-turbo engine (3000gt vr4 and stealth twin-turbo) and the ls1, relating to issues as spinning bearings, oil pump problems, anything that is a known issue with the ls1. Thanks for the replies.

lmao, how about just bolt-ons with no nos, how do they generally hold up, and what does go on them when they do. 6g72's spin bearings all the time on basic performance upgrades.

guess that is what you get for a mitshi pos. I vote ls1 is a way hardier motor, I mean the stock crank can take a ton of abuse like 300 shot and 12 psi of boost. I doubt you ever see a stealth hold together with those mods.

Thats the kind of info i need to use in my argument, anyone else. Daryl, got any hard facts, #'s, to throw around, besides 300 shot and 12 psi. How long do you think stock motor would hold running those conditions, or how about 8psi and a 150 shot?

My personal opinion is this 150 shot all day for 150k miles as long as two conditions are met.

1. Don't over rev the motor stay around 6200 rpm's max on stock bolts. Going more is usually ok but I compare it to walking thin ice.

2. Keep the tune right. If you don't run it lean you can't break a ring land.

Same basically applies for forced induction

well if you want an article, car craft made right around 700hp from a stock bottom end on a 200 shot, thats very inpressive from such a "small" motor with stock internals

what is the engine layout of your friends twin turbo? 4cyl, 6cyl, straight, v-config? If its got a straint 6, theyre pretty tough. Ive got a strait six in my jeep and its got almost 250,000 miles with ZERO problems other than a busted water pump a few years back.
There are tons of considerations, but you have to figure a strait 6 with 6 cylinders and 7 main bearings, while usually smaller and with less power potential, will generally be more durable that a v-8 with only 5 main bearings, all else being equal.
Just a thought.
But who cares which is tougher, the v8 may last 200,000 miles, and the strait 6 may last 300,000. But neither one of you will drive the cars for that long. Whos faster between stoplights? thats all I care about.

One of the sponsers I believe had 800hp on the stock LS1 crank. Bad cast pistons, rod bolts only go to 6300, shitty heads that only flow in the 220's

Dam motor kills the clutch and the dam trans kills the rear which kills your dam wallet which is a dam shame

they were hand assembled by god! Need I say more.

Besides pistons, the entire stock engine is pretty stout. You do have the occasional person with slap & consumption. I think compared to other engines it is "tougher than average".

If you wanna make your point in the arguement ask him how long his twin turbo motor would last at 350 horsepower. Then when he replies with his answer tell him thats what an ls1 makes stock and that it'll probably keep running to hell freezes over if maintained right.

Its real simple in my mind: LS1's have made over 720HP with a completely STOCK bottom end.

Who can beat that!?

A couple of engines. You who's from Ford, then there are those straight-6 guys out of Japan, and maybe the flat-6 in the 911 Turbo.

The 3000GT VR4's motor is a V6 turbo. I believe you are thinking of the 2JZGTE motor used in the Supra.

The Supra can handle over 900whp on the stock bottom end, which is still more then the LS1.

Man, I want a Poopra.
