Default Backfiring...?

I'm getting a POP POP POP sound coming from the exhaust area??? when I floor it, and the tach gets above 4k or so maybe.. if I back off of the gas it stops...

My whole car shakes to when I try to accelerate in a higher gear if the tachs under 2k... So 6th gear is useless unless I'm going at least 80 or so.

So hopefully this will be enough info to get ideas started... let me know what else you need to know about the conditions...

Thanks

Mine did exactly the same thing, changed plugs and wires, ran perfect after that. Still not enough power though Hope this helps.

Did this start after you installed the headers beacause exhaust backfire is normal and happens sometimes and with headers and full exhaust it is heard much more easily.

You could have a dead spark on one of your cylinders which will make the unburned fuel dump into the header and explode which would be the backfire you are hearing.

Yes to both you. Long tubes, TD's... I will pull the plugs and put new ones in... can I check the wires some how or just buy new and call it a day... They are about 3 -4 years old taylor 80mm off the top of my head.

I maybe should have mentioned the back fire is hit or mis... sometimes it does it sometimes it does'nt...After I put all goodies on, and was working on the tune with a friend I was getting a lot of KR.. he thought it might be False knock... so I went down got 5 gallons of the high octane 107 or whatever mixed it in with about a half a full tank... ran the car/logged still pulled knock so it was more than likely false knock.

The next day the pop pop pop happened... and I also noticed the 6th gear shutter on the drive home... Coinsicendce?

Does it have an intermittent miss also. At idle and light throttle?

no... the only time I've ever "heard" it missfiring popping is when I have the pedal on the floor, if I back the pedal off it stops...

the car has a bad shake/shudder to it at different times.. somethimes when I first start the car feels like its starved for power, everything is shaking, and then I hit like 3.5K or so and it's like a brick wall day and night difference, car takes off, like a baby shot of nos just hit it or something

did something similar to that on the dyno... HP/TQ numbers were climbing UP, and then BAM they fall off straight down, and start climbing again...

I get backfiring all the time in the high-rpm ranges when decellerating. I just have a cat-back, but I've been told backfiring is normal.

mines not on decell... only happens when I have my foot in it, and the rpms are arround 4k or so...back off of the gas goes away... push the pedal back down pop pop pop... but it does'nt do it EVERY time.. hit or miss...

I have new plugs, I'll try and change them this weekend. If I pull out the old ones, and their not black or anything, do I have OTHER problems?

I had the same problem. I also had Taylor wires. They were supposed to ohm out to ~350 ohms. I had one that was 1200 ohms, one that was 5k ohms, one that was 8k ohms, and the rest were over 2 meg ohms, the limit of my tester. I replaced the wires, along with plugs and no more backfire.
Before you go buy new wires, check the resistance with an ohm meter. You could also have a cracked plug or 2.

Okay I will do that...

Couple of questions though... WHAT wires did you go with that actually do work, I'll stay away from the ebay taylor's this time....

"IF" it is the wires, or a cracked plug... would it make any sense for the problem to be hit or miss... would'nt it be there all the time if I had either one of those issues? Just curious...
