LS1 heads on a 6.0L
Will the LS1/LS6 style heads work on a LQ4 6.0L block. It's stock bore and stroke. Or will there be piston to head clearance problems? And does it take a defferant head gasket? Or can I use the Cometics that I already have?

*****,
This kind of question should really be posted on the Internal Engine Forum. However, that being said; yes the LS1 heads would work on the LQ4 block. LS6 heads would breathe better though.

What kind of cam are you running? Depending on the lift and duration and the subsequent piston to valve (PV) clearance, you may need a fairly thick gasket. If the cam is fairly mild (like under .550" lift on intake and exhaust and under probably 224 degrees duration on intake and exhaust) you could probably run about a .040" gasket like the Fel-Pro 1041 or Cometics. The factory multilayer steel (MLS) gasket is a good gasket too but is about .055" thick so your quench is not as optimal. If in doubt on your PV clearance, be conservative and choose a thicker gasket.
Have your heads been milled? Do you know that your heads and block decks are flat? This will make a big difference on any head gasket when it comes to sealing.

My cam is .549/.549 230/236 and I have crane 1.8's that I plain to run as well. I would say the heads are flat, I just got them back from the machine shop. They were 62cc when I bought them and the guy at the machine shop said he barely had to toutch them they were already pretty sraight. As for the block it's stock so I can only hope. The 1.8's should put me at .581 lift which is still mild compared to what most are running.

*****,
I haven't had experience with a cam that big. However, I think that I'd want to check the PV clearance to be on the safe side. Maybe someone with similar experience can chime in.
