And again where do you want your powerband. That lg cam is an upper rpm performer. He's not really building a drag car as much as a street car so the upper rpm powerband isnt really what he's looking for. He wants good low, great mid with good high. Power that doesnt really start coming on until 4000-4500 rpms isnt that great on the streets in a full weight car.

I spent a little over 500 for parts (cam swap only) and did the install myself. That saves you quite a bit of cash. I found a place that will do the tune (to be accomplished) from $250-$400 depending on how long it takes. So it can be done for around a grand.
Cam $210 Used (forum)
Oil pump $80 SDPC
LS2 Timing chain $25 New (forum)
Push rods $96 New (forum)
Valvesprings,
retainers, locks $75 New (forum)
Install kit $45 SDPC
Most of my parts I bought here on this forum from members new...

I would say a 224/226 .571 .575 112 would give u a peak power at around maybe 6200 rpm but with a tight LSA of 112 or 111 would let you be able to rev up quicker.

you really donyt need a new timing chain that single roller will last a while. They dont wear out like belt drives do.

haha after reading these posts, i am glad that some of you won't ever have the chance to work on my car...
yeah, why would you change out a timing chain? it's not like if it fails anything major will happen. also, if you're going to spin 6,500+ rpm on a stock pre-01 shortblock, you don't need rodbolts, they weren't upgraded for a reason..hah you guys kill me.
do it once, do it right, or don't do it at all. if you're going to cam it, at least change rod bolts, upgrqade your oil pump and timing chain...don't cut corners. these motors are very well built from the factory with 2 major defects: oiling and rod bolts.

You don't need to go huge to make power with a cam only setup. If you want awesome power, and great driveability, look at Thunder's selection of cams. I made 430/393 SAE and 438/401 STD cam only on a street tune, probably had a little more in it if we could have played with it on the dyno.
You definitely want to get a new oil pump, along with a new timing chain. The LS2 is a huge step above the stock LS1, and is what I am running. If you can afford to do the rod bolts, go ahead. I spin my motor to 6800 daily and haven't had a problem yet, not saying it can't happen though.
In my opinion, TSP's cams aren't making the TQ that they should to match the HP output of them. From our dyno day last Saturday, I made 14 more rwhp, and a good amount of torque more than a MS3 cammed car. That car had all the same mods, and true duals. Do your research before hand, and you will be extremely happy!

HPE "S" cam is on a 113 ot 114. Cam only through a 6 spd. put down 422. With there big box of goodies (h/c package 5.3 heads) put down 465. Damn I wish I would have waited and bought an LS1 a cam swap picks up so damn much.
