Default Crank Pulley Removal on Engine Stand

Does anyone have any tips on how to R&R a crank pulley with the engine on an engine stand with no flywheel? I'd like to install my ASP pulley and throw a new oil pump and LS2 timing chain in before the motor goes in the car. There must be a way to do it, but I can't seem to find any tips by searching the forum. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't even bother dude, just put everything else on, then get the motor in the car and then install the pulley, it's easy enough with the motor in the car, and you won't be able to get that amount of torque applied to the crank bolt with it on a stand anyways. You will most likely turn the entire motor over trying to crank that bolt down

You could try using an old serpentine belt and set it up to a way that it won't allow the crank pulley to spin. I do this on lsx based trucks to break free and tighten the crank bolt, but I'm not sure how to route the belt on an ls1. You'll crack the belt, so if you need a new belt anyways, just use your old one and replace it with a new one. Keep the old one so you can use it later for this same purpose.

I was able to hold the dowel for the flywheel when I installed mine on the stand

Did mine on the stand,5 times easier than i the car. Get a few buddies to come over and help! You will need to get a chain wrench to wrap around the pulley while your buddy holds it in the reverse way while you torque the pulley on,while a third buddy stands on the back of the stand to brace it and the motor as you torque.

Easy. get about a 2 foot x 2 - 3" long piece of 1/4 inch steel and use your flywheel to match up two bolt holes that are at oposite sides. drill the holes in the piece of metal somewhere in the middle. Take the piece of metal and stick it between two arms of the engine stand so it will lodge itself once you start to torque down. Tighten the two bolts up to the crank so they are snug + about another 1/2 turn.

Change that bitch out.

worked well for me.

hey if you have a good puller than take your old bolt if you are replacing it then grind the side off the bolt to clear pulley then put your puller. on and hit with an impact wont turn motor and works twice as easy and know its not easyer to do it in the car
