Default Spun bearing or collapsed lifter?

over reved the motor, then the motor started knocking, sounded like it was coming from the top of the motor so figure it was probably a collapsed lifter. i take the heads off (checked pushrods rockers etc.) and all the lifters apear to be ok. the roller ***** show only normal wear a roll smoothly.the weird thing is that i found a piece metal (looked like a small piece of aliminum foil) on one of the lifters. could it be that i spun a bearing?. or could the lifter have internal damage eventhough externally it still looks new. by the way motor was built around 4k miles ago.forged pistons, lunati rods, arp rod bolts race coated bearings, ls6 ported oil pump, block has ported oil passeges but a reused the stock crank, the entire rotating assembly was balanced also. the car is a 98z m6

oil pressure is @ 40psi at idle and goes up as it revs
zaner did you just replace the bearings, how hard was that. i have done many h/c swaps on both ls1 and lt1 but have never messed with bottom ends. should i take it to a shop? really dont want to. thanx

I sold that motor to a guy wanting to do a swap into a non lsx vehicle, he didnt mind the bearing was spun and planned to rebuild it anyways. I took that money teamedit w/ a little more and bought a built ls1 w/ 34,000 miles.

how high did you rev it out of curiosity? i would think that a forged motor like you have should take quite a beating.

If it is on a 98 block, they had oiling issues. That is why even GM modified the blocks mid 99.
I would never use a 97>98 block for a rebuilt.

I remember when I had my 99z28 if I ran it lower than 1qt low on the stick and reved the snot out of it the oil pressure would actually start to DROP! Not good. When it was full of oil I never saw a problem. I ran quite a few bottles of N2O through that engine however and it did have over 100,000 miles.

Well, not really; it just means that they are not the best for rebuilts and high power applications.
Let us say they were improved upon.
