Default 400+ CI guys inside please

People that are using large displacment engines, what are you using for cooling system components? What radiator, water pump, t stat, fans, etc.etc?

I'm in the process of building a iron 402, and want to make sure that the cooling system will be up to par for the new motor.

Thanks!

I'm using a SLP Radiator, stock water pump, stock fans, full A/C working and a 178 degree thermostat. About a 90% water 10% coolant ratio, I need to drain it and refill with distilled water and a bottle of water wetter, but I will wait for the head situation to get resovled before that.

It's over 100 degrees here in AZ already, and I checked the coolant temps with HP Tuners a couple days ago and it was 215 at idle in the middle of the day with the A/C running and I had driven the car for 30 mins or so prior.

Sounds to me like you're still running a little hot. Probably increasing the coolant content might help.

The SLP radiator, is that any bigger/larger capacity then the original factory M6 radiator?

The more coolant you put in will only make you run hotter as water dissapates heat faster, coolant is just for lubrication.

The SLP radiator is a little more capacity, and from what I heard is just an LT1 radiator resold as a bigger LS1 radiator, they just plug up a couple extra outlets on the radiator.

Stock, Stock, 160 Stat, Stock Fans just lowered temps. Runs fine so far! Although I am in MN so its only like 70F here.

Here in CT where I'm at it does get hot... so that's my concern.... plus I'm running a 4500 conerter and a th400, so the motor's spinning more then normal so to speak.

I am planning on getting a mez. race pump probably over the winter, as the a/c is going away when the motor comes out, and the heat will most likly go away over the winter... so there's probably not much use to getting the street pump, I'm just concerned if that will be enough, or do I need a larger radiator, etc.etc. I was curious on the fans, because I read that a large single fan will work fine, as long as it's hooked up so that it comes on when the low and high fans (either) come on, and will save some weight, as I'm gonna have 100 lbs that I need to get off the nose of the car to make up for the iron block.... so anything I can do at this point will be a help. Looks like enough guys are getting away with the stock stuff, so as long as whatever I do is at least equeal to that I should be fine.

iron 408.

Stock fans, stock radiator, stock waterpump, 160* thermostat. Fans lowered to come on sooner.

I usually see about 180ish most of the time. After a 1hr trip in traffic last week I did see right at 195-200 through my logging... but after checking, I was a little low on water... I'm still slowly working on getting all of the air bubbles out of the system.

Same.

Sitting in traffic it gets up around 210 but once the motor starts spinning again it cools right back down to 185 or so.
Iron block 402.
