Just on a sidebar. Delvac 1 and Rotella T are cheaper than crap at Wal-Mart (1 gallon is about $8). I am running 10W-30 Rotella T in my 108,000 mile 1998 Regal GS.

Besides, there is some speculation (and fact) that big viscosity spreads require viscosity index improvers (even in full/real synthetics) which are much more prone to shearing down than oils with less spread (i.e.; a 5W-40 is better than a 5W-50). See Patman, I did learn something over on BITOG!

Wal-Mart doesn't carry Delvac 1 from what I have seen. They carry the Delvac 1300 Super which is conventional. Delvac 1 should easily run $25+/gallon.

How does the Castrol Syntec 5w-40 and 10w-40 compare to the GC or even the Mobile 1 5w-40 turbo diesel formula? Thanks.

I've never seen an oil analysis on Castrol 5w40 or 10w40 yet to compare, although I do know they are decent oils.

I still prefer GC above all else.

No prob. The Rotella T (blue jug) is pretty popular with the older VW diesels. It's a group 3 oil though. The only group 4 synthetics available in N. America are Mobil 1 (which includes Delvac 1), Amsoil, and the German Castrol... maybe a few others.
