I beat him every time. Who leaves the stock stuff on anyway, get a set of ported heads or aftermarket heads and stop worrying about casting numbers

I still think this is BS. The 243 heads were reserved for the Z06. Even regular Vettes didn't get them. Let's see some proof, pictures, VIN's, etc. I seriously doubt GM would have run low on 241 heads and given the customers 243s.

It can happen folks. This is GM were talking about. If they ran out of LS1 castings and this was one of the last cars down the line do you think they'd hold up production? Or maybe an LS6 head shipment went to the wrong plant and a few sets of heads ended up on Fbodies before someone took notice. You really think that there were no LS6 heads lying around at the Fbody plant? Many ways to explain it.

I can see running out of 241 heads if, and only if, they were selling F-Bodies like crazy. Come on, there were no shortages of 241 heads. And they certainly wouldn't put 243 heads on an F-Body over a Vette.
I have seen next year's stuff end up on last model year's car though. But the 241 heads wasn't out of production until '04.
I'm not buying into it either but that's just me

Back in the day... I had a 67 Impala with a little 283 that seemed to run too good. After my sister borrowed it and promptly totalled the body, I yanked the motor and found the 283 had the big valve heads and cam from the 327. The block was an underbored 327 block with the small journals. My father bought this car new in 67. Friends who were running NHRA stock classes were all over me for these parts because they were legal parts, but the casting numbers were odd. This was the last year for the 283, so chevy was picking parts other than what was expected.
BTW, when I brought the heads to Briggs Chevrolet in NJ to help ID them, they told me I had a nice porting job. Then they noticed they still had the casting flash and were as cast. The heads were based on a casing from 65 FI 327 engine. Guess they were leftovers. So I would say NO BS on this one..

Nobody figured this out until mid 2006? When the last f-body was a 2002?
Nice try.
