Default slp heads/cam package

Hello,
I am wondering what you all think of this package from slp:
http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=12226

Has anyone used it? Would it be ok for a daily driver?
The main attraction of this package for me is the CARB number since I am in California. I only have the most basic of bolt-ons right now ( lid, cat-back, LCAs, ls7/ls2 clutch/flywheel, moser 9in on its way). I'll probably be getting an intake manifold (ls6 most likely) before the end of the summer. The only kind of headers I can get are shorties as I really want to keep my car smogable. So, is this package good or no?
My ultimate goal is to get 4xx rwhp and be california smog legal.

What do you guys think?

slp sucks

call Thunder racing, frutral motorsports, or texas speed and have them hook you up with a package

For the same price (and maybe even better) you can get a better grind and a better set of heads.

I went to thunder racing and looked around, but none of there packages look smog-able (on first glance)

the cheatR package from thunder racing looks promising
http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=3&pcid=289
but there is no guarentee on emissions like there is on the CARB numbered slp package. And I would really like to break into the 400's whp ( i know, 398 is aweful close ). Looking at the cheatR graph, you don't really get any benefit until 4k rpm, but I guess that is to be expected.

why does slp suck? overpriced? underperform? bad workmanship?

thanks for your help!

dont fall into the SLP trap. you can get a WAY better H/C package than that. look on the site for some proven packages.

ok, so my big draw to the slp package is the CARB number...

Whatever package I get, it has to pass california emissions (including visual) and the CARB number guarentees that.

Are there other CARB numbered packages out there?
or is gettign a california smog legal 400+whp car just not gonna happen?

perhaps going to a 383 rotating assembly with the cheatR package, or another 'mild' heads/cam package will get me what i want... Is it hard to get a 383 to pass the sniff test?

man, if i didn't live in cali, this would be much easier. stupid nonsense smog laws!

SLP bloats their numbers.
SLP has NO customer service. Won't back their parts.
SLP is overpriced.

look at the tr224/224

i think that will pass emmisions in CA... i have seen 3 cars with that cam in CA and have passed

the Cheatr will pass... it is designed for emmisions controlled states

and you will get way more power from 2k-6.5k with the cheatr cam...

SLP = too much $$$$

Plus, I have a hard time thinking a 236 duration cam is going to pass any states emissions, let alone CA

the CARB number means it passes, or should anyway.

I will look into this. Do you have dyno graphs for this combo? Is it worth getting the stage 2x heads instead since they come with better springs? I didn't see any prices for the heads...

What do you guys think about adding a little stroke? in addition to the heads / cam of course. would that help beef up the low end? ruin smogability? Would that require rethinking the heads/cam choice?

Thanks again for all your help, guys!

stage 2x is better, better springs dual but same as 2 heads.
