Default quick answer needed - oil system

The search function sux here! I am plumbing remote filter and cooler and need to know which of the oil ports on the block is the pressure side and which is the suction side.

(I am running a Canton pan, which does not have the OE style filter boss .)

TIA,
Tony

Default Another stupid question

OK, I can figure it out if I can get a different question answered.....

Which side of an oil filter is pressurized, the center or the outside?

Pretty sure the outside holes on the filter are inlet.

I went on what little common sense I have and reckoned the outside holes were the inlet and the inner one was the outlet.

Based on that WAG, I ran my oil line from the back port to the center hole of the remote mount filter, from there to the cooler and then back to the block.

I've only run this engine for a few minutes - I have to trailer the car to the dyno this week, but I have tremendous oil pressure - I only hope the filter is flowing the right direction!

The oil feeds into the filter from the outside holes on the filter, and out of the filter (into the motor) from the center hole. If you have a remote mount, you need to look at the inside and figure out what is happening. The hole going right in the center of the filter area on the motor, is oil going INTO the motor. Tony; if I am reading this right, you are not connected right and that could collapse the filter. Handzels book has a picture of the oil system on page 16. I will scan it tomorrow night if you want to see it.

Racecar,
Thanks for the input. Would you mind emailing that scan or posting it to me? Going to try to get to the dyno tomorrow, and I need that oil system lined out right beforehand.

Email address.... aelyas (at) sbcglobal (dot) net.

thanks,
Tony

This is the way I have things routed now:

I am pretty sure I have the filter flowing the right way, but please correct me if I am wrong! Any thoughts on whether the cooler is OK running before the filter like this or would it be better after?

How do you guys embed images in the body of the post as opposed to attaching them?

Tony, You have it right. The only thing that you can do wrong is to feed the pressure to the center of the filter.
Mine is setup to send the oil to the filter first, then the cooler, then the motor.
All of the oil going to the cooler is filtered. I like to make sure that I am not going to fill the cooler with debris if anything breaks inside the motor.
Some people plumb it like yours, in case there is anything in the cooler, it will get filtered.

Thanks for getting back to me and easing my mind.

This forum doesn't have the traffic it used to, but IMO, the signal/noise ratio has improved!

The car is running OK, now that I found that my cam position sensor was unplugged, and plugged it back in.

I still need to get it tuned, but a bad experience over in Houston at the dyno has given cause to reassess my choice in tuners. Bad business doesn't bring this one back!
