Default highest possible compression on pump gas

building a 383 in a 01 SS Camaro and need to know what is the highest possible compression I could run with pump gas. I want to test the limit and make as much HP as humanly possible and still be some what streetable. Was considering 13.5 to 1. Going for 700hp N/A

Missing way too many details to give you a recommendation, also, forget the static compression ration the DCR will decide what octane gas you have to use...

Yeah, you could do like 14 or 15+:1 if you wanted to. The tune and the cam will decide really; but at some point you will see dimishing returns. Timing usually makes more power than simply bumping compression Its the whole combo that you want to maximize. Engine Masters engines (pump gas, points for average hp/tq) use 12:1 on a regular basis. And they are usually using much less efficient head designs.

For 13-14:1 compression you are going to need a MASSIVE cam that'll bleed off comp.

To hit 700 hp n/a on pump gas with only a 383... probably isn't gonna happen, no mater how big the cam is etc.etc. Are you going solid roller? Are you putting a sheet metal intake on, what heads?

I'd probably change the goal if I were you... 475 on pump gas with a 383 would be a good # to aim for, 500 would be pushing it. 700, isn't gonna happen without a power adder on pump gas.

Those goals are really pushing it. The rule of thumb is not to go over 11 - 11.5 SCR or 8.5 to 8.6 DCR. I have a feeling that as you round off past 12:1 on pump gas, youre going to have to pull enough timing to take away any gains from the added compression. Pushing past that will only further exagerate that. If you really want to do this just to prove a point, go for it and just pull a bunch of timing and see if it runs. You can always put in race gas and change the tune later.

I will have a tune for both pump and race gas I just wanted to know what I could get away with. A happy middle for both
