About 3 years ago I ported my stock throttle body, and it seems like since then I had a oil burning problem. Not really bad but a small amount. Then about 2 years later I did a 230x224 cam, with new seats, dual valvesprings etc. Then I put a 150shot on top. By the end of the year I was burning about 1 quart of oil every few hundred miles. (about fall of 2005). Since spring, I traded the 230 for the t-rex cam. did a fast 90/90 and other misc. Since the valvatrain was done about 1 1/2 before the t-rex I did not have that touched. The oil seemed to get worse with the new cam. So I did the ls1 to ls6 pcv swap.
Here is where the question lays now. I went to the track over the weekend (95+ degrees out) and I made 5 passes. (2) on the hose (3) n/a. I ended up burning 1 quart of oil. WHen I go wot you can see the blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust. So here is what I am thinking
A) My rings are shot, that is what seems to be the problem since there is so much oil comsumption going on.
B) My valve seats may not be sitting right.
But there is no difference in the performance in the car. If it was the rings, I would be loosing compression. So I would feel a difference in the overall performance correct?

some people still add a catch can with a the ls6 pcv system. so that could help you out more. if it's consuming that much oil you could do a comp test just to see where your at.

Ya, I'll to the catch can. But that would only stop the oil from burning through. I would be emptying the damn can over and over again.
But I do need to get off my *** and do the compression test!

I thought that my rings were shot. But I never got off my lazy *** and check them for sure. But figured after all my contemplating about them, I would finally make a thread to see what others though.
I have a very similar problem... my car will bellow smoke out the rear when WOT above 4000 or 4500 rpms... Mine burns a quart every several hundred miles also! It did it before i ever did the cam swap, then after the cam swap with springs, seals, and all that good stuff you mentioned, it still does it .... Only difference is that it doesnt seem to use near as much if i'm running th ecar easy... but who just puts around in such an awesome vehicle??
I did a compression test and passed WONDERFULLY... 180psi across all the cylinders... some said that if i'm gettin that much oil in the cylinders, then i'm doing a wet test no matter what, and the compression test might lie (i don't know.. thats just what some have said)... my next step, whcih was supposed to be last week, but that didnt get done, was a Leak-down test... i know a guy with the leak-down tester and i'm gonna see what that tells me...
If you figure anythign out, i really want to know.. i'll let you know the results of my ventures.

Ditto here i noticed the mac exhaust in your sig and there was a post here while back about how tons of these guys with mac mids use oil like thatbecause mine does the same thing as yours. dont know why the exhaust would have something to do with it but thats just what i saw and witnessed

Before doing anything complicated, add a catch can.
I put my car on the dyno after installing the cam and that thing just poured blue smoke out the back, I was horrified.
$25 at Home Depot and it hasn't burned a drop of oil since...a very small amount collects in the catch can.
