Hey guys, doing the cam install. I have the 3 arm puller, my air gun will not turn it anymore and the pully will not break free. Any ideas?

 

get a bigger gun. or try a ratchet and a cheeter bar

 

wd-40 and mabye a few taps with a rubber mallet might help besides that mabye heating the crank but now your talking risky crap (imo)

 

i have the type of puller that has 3 arms with the hooks. I have it hooked to the rear of the pully, hitting it with the gun and it does not move. am i missing something? Is there some key or something?

 

I hate to have to ask this but did you remove the bolt?

Get the type of puller that uses three long bolts. You will need three long threaded bolts to match threads on crank damper.

 

Impact socket attached to a 1/2" (minimum) breaker bar, with a 3-4 FOOT cheater-pipe used as an extension (slid over the breaker bar).

 

Ratchet and a 2'-3' breaker bar. Sometimes it takes quite a bit to break it free. Once it pops it'll come off easier. I broke 3 cheapy 3 arm pullers at one time trying to get the crank pulley off. Twisted the rod right in half.
I picked up an "OEM" 3 arm puller from autozone and that did the trick.

Heat around the center only of the pulley...Just around the crank with a propane torch holding it steady in a few spots for about 10 seconds each spot...It will come right off...Same way going back on..You'll need to torch if for about 20 seconds on each of the 4 spots of a cross and it will slide all the way back on...

 

OK the stock bolt is out, but what did you put in its' place for the puller rod to buck up against? There is no key or keyway. It's an interference fit. It doesn't really "break loose" and then come off more easily the rest of the way. It just requires slow steady pressure till you reach the step at the back face of the pulley bore.

 

All I did was use a spacer on the 3-arm puller to give it a longer reach. Kinda hard to explain, but I took the pulley off with no probs...

 

Don't use a air gun on the 3 arm puller. It'll mess the threads up, they are designed to be turned slow NOT impacted. Also your puller, does it have fine threads or course ? You want the one that has fine threads. Another little tip is to put some antisieze on the threads of your puller before you try and pull off anything. And make sure the puller is straight, it will not pull it off if it's not straight.

 

This May Seem A Bit Dumb To Ask But Did You Loosen The Crank Bolt Out First?

When We Did My Swap We Loosened The Crank Bolt But Kept It In So The Pulley Puller Wouldent Mess Up The Threads And Gradually Brought The Bolt Out More As The Pulley Needed It
