Default Best daily driver cam?

I am looking for the best daily driver cam for the absolute best price. I am on a tight budget but I want the car to be very comfortable to drive everywhere all day long. I will have a 3400 stall and nitrous on the car. What do you guys think?

Sounds like you want the stock cam. It's cheap, it will run all day with excellent driveability and get the best fuel economy. Everything else is going to be a compromise.

All sarcasm aside, how about some additional info, like what kind of springs are you willing to run? What's the limit of rpm you can put up with? Can you afford tuning? What's more important, mid-range punch or top-end power? What kind of idle do you want? How much fuel economy are you willing to sacrifice? See, without answering more questions, you're best off with the stock cam for a daily driver.

"Tight budget" would definitely rule out a lot of additional factors being required for an aggresive camshaft. You'll need to select a camshaft that doesn't require a tune from it's designer (however, all camshafts benefit from a tune, even you're stocker). The XR265HR from Comp is a decent grind for what you are looking for, for now, and does not require a tune (as per Comp). It's specs are the following;

212/218 .522"/.529" 114-LSA

Part Number: CCA-54-412-11

Super Chevy ran a comparison a few months back, and had great things to say about that particular cam. Although they admitted to being very limited in their testing (no tuning ability), they go on to say that the larger of the camshafts that they ran it against would in fact make much better "peak" horsepower if properly tuned...

Good luck w/you're selection...

My nitrous kit is jetted for about a 150 dry shot. I have a street 3400 Fuddle Racing Stall w/lockup. I would not like to have to change the new springs if at all possible. I have an auto so gas mileage already kinda sucks so I would like to not have it change much if any.

This car rarely sees the track anymore and I just like to have the ***** to the wall power on the streets. I would like a nice sounding cam but I don't want anything rough or anything like that that I can't put up with driving this thing everywhere I go.

Dependability is a huge factor also. I have a few friends with HP tuners that can help me tune when needed. Just as my car sits with the mods in my sig no one can seem to get it tuned right with the injectors. Not even a local shop on the dyno. The LTFT's and the STFT's just don't seem to get right.

You didn't spec what kind of springs you have now. If you have stock springs, you'll need to swap to better springs, even if you run a factory LS6 cam. Upgraded pushrods as well. Cam swapping is not something that you want to do the cheapest way possible. Poorly chosen springs can wipe out your valvetrain with 1 over-rev or can put out less than stellar numbers due to valve float. Get the best springs you can afford (Comp 918s at least).

Look for someone selling a used Thunder Racing 220/220 cam or a 224/224 cam. Either of those will work well with 918s and can be had for a good price.

Remember, when planing a cam and trying to allott the $$$s START with the tuner! He is going to make the cam actualy work! and a good one is not exactly cheep! When you find a good one hopefully near you ask HIM about your needs and if you want a second oppinion just post his responce, youll get no doubt thousands

I didn't mean to say I didn't want to swap springs. I meant to say that I would not like to have to change the new ones that I put in. I'd like for them to last a very long time. I figured I would have to put better pushrods in the car too.

What are the stock cam specs? Anyone think it is worth throwing the LS1 hotcam kit in the car?
