Default Green GC Score!!

Well, if you consider 4 Qts a score. As hard as this stuff is to find, I know I do. I stopped at a obscure little AZ not far from my house today, and lo and behold, I found 4 quarts of the green stuff. This is the oldest AZ that I know of in our area and they were the last 4 (very dusty) bottles out of the 15 or so that they had on the shelf. This place must not sell much Castrol Syntec 0w30 because they had the largest mix of it I've seen. There were both regular and Katrina bottles of the gold Euro, some Made in USA Syntec, and then the 4 bottles of the Green. Anyway, don't give up the search. The green is still out there, it's just a matter of finding it before someone else does.

From what I've heard, isn't gold as good or better than green, or have only initial tests been done on gold?

I really wish somebody had some test data on it, then I wouldn't have to keep searching for the "Holy Grail" of motor oils. Every AZ in the area has the gold on their shelves. It's readily available here in St. Louis.

Patman said that some testing has been done and it looks as good or better than green - though the amount of data that is available?.. no idea. I couldn't find the green, but there are shelves full of gold here so I use that now based on the statement Patman made that it seems good so far. I don't think gc would step down their infamous oil.. at least I'd hope they wouldn't.

Addatives DO have a shelf-life...right? Wouldnt this mean that the older green stuff isnt what it used to be?

Oh crap, I hope not. I wouldn't think an additive would deteriorate just sitting on the shelf.

The new Gold is slowly replacing the now discontinued Green. Everything I've read so far says that they think it's a new and improved Green formula, but I haven't read anything conclusive, yet. Maybe Patman will read this and enlighten us.

Everything so far that I've seen on the gold formula proves it to be the same or better than the green formula, so I'm not afraid to use it once my supply of green runs out. I've still got about 50L of green left in my basement though. I used up 5 of them today when I changed the oil in my mom's car. I hadn't changed her oil in two years! She only drove 7600 miles though, so I didn't want to waste a good batch of GC by changing it with less than 4k on it. I sent a sample for testing and am confident it'll prove I didn't do anything wrong. I also got oil analysis results from my own car earlier this week too and yet again I got great results. My supply of green GC gets used up in 4 different cars in my family so I should run out of it by about this time next year, and will switch everyone over to the gold formula after that.

OK, green or gold, can you tell on the bottle? I know it needs to say "imported from Germany" to be GC, but other than that...?

There's a code printed on the bottom of the bottle. It should be G051xxxxxxx or earlier in addition to stating "Made in Germany" on the bottle. I'm 99% sure of this, but I can't find the thread that states this, so if I'm mistaken (and I have been before) somebody please correct me before Stanger88 wastes some money on the wrong oil.

You are correct, the green GC will have a date code that is between M02 and M0501. If the date code is M0502 or newer, then it will be the gold GC.

Be careful if you find some M02 stuff since some of it could be US made stuff. It must say made in Germany to be the right stuff. But all M03 and newer stuff has been made in Germany. (FWIW, M02 signifies it was produced in 2002, M03=2003, etc.)
