Default White smoke during start-up

1999 trans-am......Ok, quick question.....just bought a car....has no oil consumption or coolant consumption, no leaks, good temp, good oil psi....ive noticed that right when you start up the car, a fairly big puff of white smoke comes out of both exhaust ports....after that it dosent smoke at all....the smoke dosent smell like oil or coolant....dosent really smell, just smells like exhaust....if it site idoling for a while, and rev it, during the rev it goes again.....what could this be? thanks!!

Probably just condensation. After all, water is the biggest byproduct of burning hydrocarbons.

Black smoke = over fueling
Blue smoke = burn oil
White smoke = worn turbo bearings

Are you sure it's not just water vapour as opposed to smoke? I know they are similar but still quite easy to tell apart and of course fundamentally very different.

Water vapour builds up in most exhaust systems, espcially in cooler, wetter climates. H2O is also a by-prodcut of CATS.

valve seals may possibly need to be replaced

Are you sure it is white smoke and not blue?

White smoke is caused by water being burned - either condesation being burned off (most likely if it is cold) or a head gasket leak letting coolant into combustion chambers.
If no coolant gets lost and it only does when cold, I'd not worry about it.

Yep, smoking after it is sitting for a while is a pretty good indication the valve seals are worn.

If its a M6, when you get a chance downshift to create some vacuum... its a easy way to tell if your valve seals are gone (will create a puff of smoke due to the vacuum pulling oil through the seals).

But that wouldn't be smoke but vapour or condensation or steam. There's a real important difference to note, as big a difference as there is between water and petrol (gasoline).

It can also from a cylinder with bad rings. Just pulled an engine over it, dont you love when an injector hangs wide open for a few thousand miles.............

no it dosent smoke at all when driving......just after it sits for a bit, and i rev it...just a little comes out, my friends dad said even new gm's blow some smoke out sometimes just a lil valve stem leak....or it could be some excess gas, becasue nitrous has been ran through it, and since im not spraying it, it could just be a lil fat?
