No oil pressure
I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm putting an LS1 into a 70 nova. I put a new ported oil pump in when I had the engine apart. Last night I was cranking it to make sure I had pressure before I started it for the first time and the needle never budged. I cranked for a good 30 seconds several times and never had pressure. Now I'm afraid to start it. Any suggestions?
Don't know if oil made it to the filter. Didn't check that. It's a brand new Pro Comp Ultra Lite mechanical gauge. I called SLP's tech line and he said I'll never get any pressure by just cranking the motor. He said I need to start it up to get pressure, but my buddy said I should crank it to prime it. Is this standard? Should I crank it and get pressure or should I just start it and watch for pressure?

Thanks Guys, I fired it up and the pressure immediately went up to 50 psi.
The only trouble now is that it runs for 3 to 5 seconds and shuts down.
