I typically run the motor until the valves stop clattering (right after the cam install), then change the oil immediately. Don't need to run the motor for long with trash and dust in it (from the swap).

Yep, run it until it's nice and warm, then drop the oil for fresh stuff. You can't go wrong.

I only put around 8k's (5mi) on mine before I changed it, why keep contaminated oil in there any longer than you need to?

Cheers,

Macca

When I did my most recent head/cam swap I bought 3 gallons of conventional oil, and 2 cheap filters. After the motor was reassembled, I immediately changed the oil and filter before starting it. I ran the oil through the motor till it reached operating temperature (while burping the radiator). Then I changed the oil and filter again with dino oil. This time I kept the oil in there for a week while I drove the car. After that I changed to good synth oil and a good filter.

Also, I recently tried amsoil euro 5w40, and this has got to be by far my favorite oil. Ive tried just about everything oit there. All the Mobil1 weights and even some mixes, penzoil synth, RP, GC, everything. Amsoil is the first oil that has made a noticeable difference in pressure and lessened noise. Even GC made my piston slap louder. I didnt even think id notice anything just from an oil, but I dont think ill be using anything else now.
