I would be due to an overcompensating IAC valve. It could also be due to running too much fuel and not enough timing.

You might get a better response asking the same ? in the pcm/diagnostics section. Most surgung can be taken out with tuning. I think it has to do with a bigger cam having less vacumn as well.

Surging is when you put TREX in a 6 speed with 3.42 gears and no tuning and then try and drive around at 1000 RPMs

it makes the rpms go up and down from like 800 to 1200 and back and forth, unstable idle etc..Bucking is when the car jerks back and forth at lower rpms with larger cams, bucking is what really sucks, surging isnt too bad and can usually be tuned out.....

yeah it's tough when John Q LAW gets behind you on a 25MPH road and you are running in 3rd or 4th gear trying to keep the exhaust note down and you have a decent size cam, lol. This is when you will see some surging.

Even when i had my tr 224 cam i was bucking a little bit.

Normally it will only happen when you are under 1700 rpms or so and dont keep on the throttle. it just kinda bucks back and forth and can get a little annoying, however when that happens typically its almost like coasting, so I'll just push in the clutch and problem solved.

Surging is where your idle can not stay consistant and it will as someone stated earlier move up and down from 800-1200 rpm typically like its "trying" to find the right idle.

as long as you dont plan on being in traffic all the time its not a big issue. But thats why they say bigger cams arent as friendly as a DD, because mainly of the bucking issues and possible surging issues if your tuner isnt stellar.

And honestly Ive never had a big cam in my car, even now in my 408 setup im running a 236/230 cam.

But thats because I have the turbo to do all the work

ah, forgot you had an auto, lol.

That will make it even more difficult for the tuner, but if they are good it can be done.

I would assume you can just throw it into neutral as pushing in the clutch does the same, but im not sure if its harsh on your drivetrain or not.

Keep in mind bigger cams are easier to deal with when comparing m6 to auto.

I would think youd be fine, you might just be going from D to neutral often.

Ive never owned a stalled auto cammed car before, so someone else will have to chime in on that.

thanks for the correction on the bucking/surging. Now that I see the difference, I agree surging can be tuned out.
